I honestly don't think RC is anything special anymore, Don't get me wrong, I have a gift card I'd sure as he'll eat there, but not in NY.

Save it, try something new, and use the gift card when you are home or in a different city that has one.

I assumed he knew all this and much of what the nay's have said.

I've eaten at this location and it was very good and the decor much nicer than the one in New Orleans.

Also, I figured since he wanted to use a few gift cards, maybe he's on a budget.

OP chime in here with the thought process on using the GC in NY vs where you live.

Was worried this would be the case as a lot of places like this get a reputation and never live up to them, however it was fantastic last time I was there. Steak was perfect and the thick cut bacon is unreal.

I know you didn't ask for other recommendations, but assuming you aren't going to RC to stay on a budget (which could be the case, and there's nothing wrong with that), you really should check into Le CouCou. Seriously the best meal I've ever had.

In my opinion NYC is the best restaurant city in the country. I would save the gift card. If you get tired of paying the bill in the expensive places, go to some of the great pizza joints. I am sure the Ruth's Chris there is very good, but it will be little different from the one on Vets.

The del frisco's in new york around 51st st is one of my favorite steakhouses in the country.

49th and 6th avenue. I have been to that steakhouse probably 2 dozen times. My dad used to work in the building. It is far and away my favorite "chain" although there aren't that many. It's a great steak and a good environment with the crowd

That's my thought. Maybe if you were in another large city, perhaps LA or Philly or Houston (even though they certainly have their share of great restaurants), I'd say "why not?" But the sheer variety available in such a densely packed area such as NYC would make Ruth's a "no go" for me. Hell, there are probably at least 10k restaurants in Manhattan alone.

Do your self a favor and branch out in NYC. Even "cheap" (for NYC) meals can be great

Excellent ambience and the dining room is beautiful. The only chain that compares to del friscos is mastros.

I haven't been to the one in NY but the Del Friscos in Boston is nice. Right on the harbor, so excellent views as well.

Never been to Mastros. It's located right across from my office in DC; will have to try it

Budget. Yes. I'd rather save the $200 here and there and use gift cards so I can spend money elsewhere. To me there can't be that much difference between a steak at Ruth Chris's vs. a steak at Peter Luger. I'd being going to a place like Peter Luger to say I went there....I prolly wouldn't see that big of a difference in quality.

I figured Lee. Plenty of time to target some other places while in town. And I agree with you in regards to steak. Like I said, very nice location. Enjoy.

definitely not terrible, but it is overrated, and imo not worth the trek to Brooklyn. Personally, I'd choose Ruths Chris over Lugers any day.

LA metro has a lot more steakhouses than New York actually.

I wouldn't go to RC. I have a rule when traveling that I don't eat at places I have at home.

I don't know this for a fact, but I would imagine there are more in NYC. I won't research this, but I feel like in Midtown alone, there is a "great" steakhouse on every block

If you really like Ruth's Chris and want to see how New York does Ruth's Chris, I'd go. Otherwise, I'd spend my time looking for what I really want to see or places I want to go while I'm there.

You can always have Ruth's Chris at home.
