Would it be an insult to the city to eat there one night while I'm in town (7 nights) or should I go somewhere else? I have a $250 giftcard.

Honestly that is what I was thinking. I've never had a bad steak there. They are actually ranked #4 on Trip Advisor. Also have a giftcard to Del Frisco's.

Eat where you want to eat. I used to go there for their happy hours a lot when my office was a block away. Their sliders are great.

I'm taking a completely different tact here, downvote away.

How often are you in NYC? Do you live near a RC? If the answers are "rarely" and "yes"...

Then, yeah, it would be dumb as frick to go to a RC's. You can use your card at home and go to RC anytime. NYC is one of, if not THE, food capital's of the world. You have more variety of foods and world class restaurants than anywhere on Earth.

Do some research. Eat at some places that you could never, ever get at home.

Or do whatever you want.

LOL, he's there for 7 days FB. Also, I have been to the one in Manhattan and it's very nice.

I'm with Fun Bunch. It's the same idea as going there and finding the closest Applebee's (not in quality, but the availability). If you don't ever go to NYC, eat at places that you can't get anywhere else because there's a good chance that you literally will die before you get another opportunity.

Now, if you don't have a Ruth's Chris nearby, then I'd say it's not as terrible to go there, but I'd personally still opt for one of the NYC based world famous steakhouses first over a chain.

I agree with all of this, including the last sentence - even if you are there for 7 days.

I'm not eating at Ruth's Chris in NYC. I'm not going to bad mouth you, if that's what you want to do, though. There's just entirely too much other shite I'd like to try.

I would skip it if I had a gift card. Can get way more for your money in another city. Like the same steak will be 2/3 the price in another city

The food will be good though

You'll get a solid meal from Ruth's, but NYC is such a great culinary city there is something different you are going to want to try that you won't be able to get anywhere else. You can get Ruth's in a lot of cities.

Agree with all of this, except it's take a different tack, not tact. I can go to Ruth's Chris for a nice dinner in BR, I wouldn't spend my time going there in NYC with all the other options available.

There are I think 24,000+ restaurants in NYC. I think he can find enough to fill up his schedule.

I can't imagine it is that much different than any other RC except for the price getting jacked up.

Like I said, and this is me, if I'm in a place I don't go to regularly, I would never eat a place I could go to easily at home.

Ruth's Chris is great, but Del Frisco's is a step above. The del frisco's in new york around 51st st is one of my favorite steakhouses in the country.

As others have said, if you have a ruths chris (or del friscos) near you, then go somewhere unique to NYC. If not, then yeah, i'd use one of those gift cards.

And i'm 100% in the "peter lugers is overrated" camp. Most people here recommend Keens.
