Michael Buchert

At least he has a solid background.

"He's not a chef," Adjey said of Buchert, who has worked in a restaurant kitchen but built his career in the front of the house, notably during almost seven years at Serrano's Salsa Co.

You can tell.

Do you know him?

No, I avoided Serrano's and now the Rum House.

It will kill it in BR.

Its built for college kids and has a very chain feel to it.

The one time I went to the NOLA location, I thought it was fairly decent. And the prices were OK. We had a few drinks and a bunch of little gourmet tacos and it was $50-$60. I think they'll crush it in BR, especially at that location.

Absolutely. I would put everything on success in BR. It was built for the city.

It was built for NOLA, actually. Their success has allowed them to replicate that in BR.

Same here.

It is of course nothing at all like a Caribbean hideaway; and there arent any tacos in the Caribbean. But it has the perception of an idyllic Caribbean place where one might spend an afternoon on a cruise drinking red stripes and fruity drinks. And perception is reality.

I'm saying, I would throw a Rum House in Baton Rouge, in a location as big as the Laffy Ruffino's. It would still be packed every night.

I've honestly only been to Rum House once. I didn't think it was bad, but then again it wasn't good enough to get me to return.

I think it's great. It's going to be a tough location though. That are is kind of a wasteland imo, but the brand recognition from NOLA should give it the support it needs.

Perhaps. I think part of what makes it popular is that you HAVE to wait for a table. Tourists, families, young folks .. they walk or drive down Mag and see all these people standing outside in 90 degree weather waiting for a table they think it must be a great spot to eat and cool down to the groovy sites and sounds of the Caribbean.

I don't know about BR but they would kill it on the northshore.

That's so weird to me, but it works.

I'm not mad at the guy.

It makes me sad that so many people(my friends included) love the place. In a great food town with plenty of options, Rum House is the busiest place in town.

Yeah I thought once the newness wore off it wouldn't be as busy. Guess I was wrong. I much rather have Rum House on Mag than a place like Twin Peaks.
