Got married at the Bourbon Orleans last year and the lady wants to go back for our 1 yr anniversary. She has a soft spot for John Besh, mostly b/c we had our rehearsal dinner at Luke and she thinks he is good looking... anyways, I'm thinking we would do lunch or happy hour there 1 day. I'm trying to decide on a couple good places for dinner. We will be there fri-monday morning. I want to do another Besh place with either Domenica or Borgne being in the running... i'm trying to get her to look at August's menu to try and get in there, but thats yet to be done. We've done Rio Mar, La Boca, Irenes and Cochon the last few times we have gone. We mostly just keep it low key though. Any other suggestions? I know there are the Brennan's places, but wasn't sure about any up and coming new places to check out.

I'd recommend a bed and breakfast called Canal Street Inn. It doesn't break the bank and the house is incredible and very old/nice.complementary full breakfast every morning and the owner is awesome. It's right on Canal so you can take the street car downtown.

A sort of different suggestion food/entertainment wise since you'll said you'll be there a few days is a Hookah bar called "Haifa" we found also on Canal. The entire place is outside under a patio and it has a great atmosphere with excellent food.

NO shite.
you try sifting through the pile of shite that is that topic. Thats why I at least came with a list of a few specifics. I appreciate the info though.
Figured I'd get a couple hits at least from Gris... she always has great suggestions.

Domenica is great, if you want to head uptown/ garden district there are Commander's Palace and Coquette that could be good dinner options, if you've never been to either of them. (Neither are really "low-key" though). If you want something more casual Boucherie uptown is also really good.

Commander's Palace

Never been, but didn't want to have to wear a coat either... is it required, it could be 95 in mid may
Couquette i've read is pretty good...

I was just thinking after looking at Couquette... the tasting menu deal seems like a cool way to go. Not all places seem to offer this, at least not on the online menu.

Not sure if it's required but I'd wear one if that's where you end up.

I've heard great things about Coquette, haven't been there yet so I can't make specific suggestions, but I've heard from several friends that it's great.

Domenica is a good choice. Borgne is not. I don't find Borgne to be bad, just not great. It's just ok. I like going for happy hour because the deals are good and it's close to the Arena. But there's no way I'd chose to go there for dinner with so many other great options in the city.

I've done the blind tasting menu at Coquette and it was fantastic.

Commander's has some incredible lunch specials and 25 cent martini's not sure of which day for the martini's

We went back in December, the food was exceptional & service was great as well. No coat was necessary and didn't feel out of place at all and this was Christmas season

Sample Lunch Menu

Enjoy

I don't think it is required, but haven't you heard of summer weight coats/suits?

I love Domenica and would do that over Borgne. Neither is romantic if you're going for that. August would add the romance.

What about brunch at Commander's? You can do that Sat or Sunday, but make a reservation soon if going there. I had brunch there last Spring and it was excellent. Coats are not required, but many will wear one. I saw a lot of guys in slacks and a button down.

Thanks for all the suggestions going to take it all in and try to make reservations by the end of the week. Have 3 nights to get dinner... figured 1 night really nice, another mid tier and a 3rd of just something simple.

Love it. All fantastic choices. Can never go wrong w/ Commander's either. I think of those 4 for an upscale dinner you can't go wrong. Throw Lilette in the mix too.

And OP, definitely as Gris said do Domenica over Borgne.

Irenes was great.... went on a whim and it took a bit to get seated, but the food was great. service was really good too. i'm trying to remember what I had, but it was a special. I did enjoy it as well as the other people with us. I'd go back, its a little weird b/c when you go in the door they send you to the back and you wait in a tiny little area. Oh and desert was tasty as well. Almost went to Peche last week with the in laws but the FIL is not on the adventurous side. he wants gumbo and grilled oysters...
