Check out George's on the Cove on Prospect St. in LA Jolla. The food is good but the outdoor patio views are incredible. Check out La Jolla regardless. Only 15 min from downtown and you will not be disappointed.

Also, no specific recommendations but the Haslam Quarter has a bunch of good restaurants you can Yelp.

Watching this.

My son just graduated from college!she and is driving from upstate NY to SD as we speak. His first Navy job. I suspect my wife and I will be spending some time down there (I haven't been there since I was a kid).

I definitely recommend checking out little Italy. I can't remember the name of where I ate there, but it was a really neat old school Italian joint. There are several to choose from,

Leroys Kitchen in Coronado. Then go to the hotel del, check it out and grab some ice cream from there.

We ate at these places while in San Diego a few weeks ago:

Pizza Port - descent pizza and great selection of beer

Ballast Point - food and beer were good. Nicest tap room I've ever been in. The tap rooms in miramar are on another level compared to other tap rooms I've been to in other cities.

Carnitas Snack Shack- the triple threat sandwich was probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. It was 3 kinds of pork on one sandwich. Pulled pork, thin slices fried pork chop ( Wiener schnitzel), and bacon with a housemade sauce.

Phill's bbq - one of most efficient setups in a bbq/restaurant that I've ever seen. BBQ was also very good.

Watergrill in gaslamp quarter - more upscale than other spots we ate at. food was very good but wait staff/ bar staff wasn't the greatest. Nice spot though and gaslamp quarter was nice.

The taco stand in la jolla- best tacos I've ever had but I'm no expert on tacos. Had great reviews on Yelp.

Pacific Beach Fish Shop was pretty good. We also ate at Richard Blais' place Juniper & Ivy. I still have cravings for the Chocolate Yodel dessert from there.

I know how this is going to sound but find a "Burritos Santana". It's a local fast food joint. Get the California Burrito. I promise you will thank me later.

Check out Herb & Wood in little Italy. Breakfast republic for breakfast...get there early. Do yourself a favor and order the shrimp & grits (I know, I know)...duck breast omelette was killer as well according to my bud.

Can't remember if breakfast republic was in Little Italy or not but it's pretty close to the airport if i recall correctly

Kansas City BBQ: you have to go there if you are a Top Gun fan. Bar scene filmed there. Decent bbq

Richard Walker's Pancake House: good breakfast place. Baked apple pancakes are really good.

Noble Experiment: great speak-easy bar. Atmosphere and drinks are amazing. Very busy, need to make a reservation in advance. It is inside the "Neighborhood" pub...yes it is a bar inside of a bar

Asti is a very good Italian restaurant in the Gaslamp District. We sat outside in beautiful weather there one night and had a great dinner.

Some of the best Mexican food I've had came from Old Town.
