As recommended a couple days ago I tried to get into peche. As of right now it ain't happening. Wife wanted rio mar, but apparently I'm out of the loop and it closed...
Looking for maybe something a little different than normal. Not over the top... Gonna be in jeans, button down and boots. I'd rather stay in the qtr, CBD or wharehouse areas, but I guess we could cab it to magazine if needed.

I went to Sylvain last night and I was amazing. Really great atmosphere and food was spectacular. I was in jeans and a button up and fit in just fine.

Wife and I just ate at Mr B's and Royal House Oyster Bar and both were excellent.

I'm addicted to Sylvain. Definitely one of the BEST, and a lively bar atmosphere so you can wear whatever you want.
I'll give a shout to the tapas and crudo menu at Crudo Bar upstairs in Baru, since I had a fantastic meal there last weekend. Being that y'all had your hearts set on Rio Mar, this is a very close option. Latin tapas/seafood restaurant.
Both of these places have "different" menus.
I think Coquette is very good, but it is a tad dressier, and not really small plate style, which seems to be what you're looking for.
Toups Meatery is another option. The Meatery Board there is to die for.

+1 on Toups Meatery...you could take the Canal St/City Park streetcar if you didn't want to take a cab. It's nice, low key, and has a menu full of interesting food.

I don't think Sylvain is lively. It's packed and dark and filled with hipsters. Maybe if they started playing some house music, I would consider it lively. But I do love their food.

Always forget about this place. I recalled it after I ate at Baru two weeks ago. FML.
This is New Orleans. Jeans and a button down can get you through many doors.

First time I went was daytime, and it was so loud and merry with big groups drinking that we could barely talk. We met people at the table next to us and had a really good time.
2nd time (nighttime) was not long ago with Yeezy, but we were given this awkward private candlelit table in an area all by itself outside in the courtyard, so obviously it wasn't lively for us that time

I'm not much for Latin/Spanish/etc. food, but I would highly recommend this to anyone. And the upstairs bar is really pretty.
And I imagine it's one of the closest you can get to Rio Mar, food wise.

I laughed at myself b/c I've been wanting to go there. I totally forgot about it. As I'm walking out of Baru, I see the sign reminding me of the upstairs place. I was pissed.

I didn't even read the OP, but when I was writing Toups, I considered going back and looking to see if he mentioned area.

Yep, everywhere but Galatoire's downstairs and Commanders.

We are getting into town early on Friday and I'd assume the wife would like to walk since the weather will be nice. I'm not stuck on the tapas type menu, it's just that we had rio mar about a year ago or so and had a good time and she wanted to go back.
I like the idea of the crudo bar, but I'm not sure if she would be. The sylvain menu looks awesome.... But again that's me. I'm letting her pick, she got me a pair of lucchese ostrich for my birthday Saturday... Thus she gets to pick.

I'm a fan of La Boca. Same owner as Rio Mar

You can wear flip flops in la boca.

Several years ago, I wore one of these to dinner with Fletch at La Boca. I think some stripper stole it from me.
