So my question is: what other beers from Parish are supposedly good? I don't want to hear "Ghost in the Machine." I don't live in LA and it's pretty much impossible for me to get that or any of their other limited stuff.

Date stamp on the bottle?

They began stamping their bottles with a date in late February. So if there was no stamp, it's likely past its prime.

Envie has typically had a nice hop nose to me and a smooth bitterness. I'd agree that it's a different beer than Dale's Pale Ale, which has more back end hop bite.

Their regular line up is Canebrake, Envie, and South Coast. So the only other regular for you to try is South Coast, but it is just an amber.

Hell even the south coast amber is a good amber with a good hop bite in it.

I'm sorry, but I think Sub and CaptainPanic are too hipster for their own good. I believe that since Parish got too "big" and people like them now, they have to shite on them, because it is the cool and nonconformist thing to do.

Because I don't like one brewery's beer, I'm too hipster? Parish is not a big brewery, sorry to break it to you. You can't get it outside of South LA.

Your view of what constitutes someone as a "hipster" is way off. A hipster would be the opposite of what you are saying and would like Parish just because it's local and you can't get it everywhere and not because they like the taste. A hipster would bash breweries like Dogfishhead because they "sold out" by being featured in Beer Wars.

I try every beer with an open mind. Maybe my expectations were a little too high based on the reception this brewery gets here.

Damn that sucks. It makes sense though, because of the size of the brewery. It would be nice if they could put out an IPA in their regular line-up.

It gets high praise for it's big bottle releases.

Very few breweries get high praise for a pale ale

New age hipsters aren't like that.

Let me guess, you loved and knew of the black keys way before they were main stream, but they're 'meh' now, right?

I thought Parish was sought after in LA. Is it really likely that I bought something that's old?

True, but I see a good brewery as more than just a brewery who has a few good big bottle releases. AKA Deschuttes. I've liked everything that I tried from them, and their limited stuff is also really good, such as Abyss and Butte.

The worse thing about Parish is their hipster maven fan boys. Guys are all on here with better than Heady talk but the minute you catch them out in NOLA they are slamming PBR tall boys and hanging at the Boot.

Parish is also a lot smaller and newer than Deschutes.

And Deschutes makes plenty of meh beers.

Did you even read my post? Parish is not "main stream" because 3 cities in one state carry it. I guess Captain Green is main stream too because they regularly play cities in LA? You are really reaching here.

Happens every day. Depends on the region. Some areas Envie goes like hot cakes, other places it's a shelf turd.

True, but they weren't always as big as they are now. I doubt they got to where they are by having a bunch of "meh" beers in their regular line-up.

I just want to find an LA brewery that delivers a good product that I can get on the reg. I think NOLA is going to start shipping to Austin soon, so I'll have to try some more of their stuff.

Canebrake is very mainstream in south LA these days.

And South LA is a better place because of it.
