Yea, I'd put macchiato on the level of ghost and GR, but all different animals.
Not many abita beers roll that high.

I like that my phone auto corrects gitm to GiTM. It just works!

Macchiato was good, but slow your roll. No where near the level of gr or ghost imo.

different strokes I guess.. im not a big DIPA fan so, while i appreciated the GITM for what it was, not my favorite style. I thought the Abita vanilla porter select they did a few years ago was one of the best beers i've ever had.
I still stand by my original statement in this thread. We've got more choices than ever in LA right now and some are really good. Quit bitching

I'm sorry, but I think Sub and CaptainPanic are too hipster for their own good. I believe that since Parish got too "big" and people like them now, they have to shite on them, because it is the cool and nonconformist thing to do.
Here's my take, which i'm sure is shared by many of the FD craft mavens.
Supporting local breweries is a good thing, no matter the brewery. Parish just happens to be the best local brewery we have. They did everything right the first time. They started off with only 1 offering, canebrake. It is a damn fine beer. When i first had it, i loved it. Granted there was probably some homerism going on there, but it was a good beer. It was also a time when i was first getting into craft beer and homebrewing. So i appreciated what they done. Today, i don't drink canebrake. My tastes have evolved, and i'm more of a hophead nowadays. I'll have one occasionally, but i'm not so big on the style. But, any friend that is BMC drinker, that typically tries a canebrake, loves it. It does what it supposed to do. They created a great, wheat ale, with local ingredients, that also serves as a gateway to other craft beers.
I find Envie to be a really nice Pale Ale. If i'm low in my fridge, and want an easy drinking pale ale, i'll grab some Envie. I believe that the hops are a bit smooth, but it's a pale ale, not an IPA. And it doesn't need a big hop bite for the style.
I find South Coast to be a decent amber. I'm not big on the style, so i don't get it often, but i bought my 6 pack and drank it.
Parish's year rounds are good for what they are, and where they are at the moment. They are still a growing brewery, so they aren't going to have year round double ipa's, stouts, etc... just yet. But as they grow, they'll go just like any other craft brewery. With more space, and more sales, more growth and tank space will come.
Now where Parish shines, is their yearly one-offs. They created a firestorm of buzz with their first, Grand Reserve. So much so, that BR sold out in 10 minutes of receiving their shipments. They followed this up with Farmhouse IPA. I find this a very good saison. Now i know the 1st year there was issues with foam. But the erupting open bottles don't occur as much anymore. But that is the danger in the farmhouse style. After that was Dr. Hoptagon. I thought this was an interesting beer. I liked it, but i believe the fruityness of the hops contrasted with the style a bit too much. I haven't had this years alotment.
Then there is the Ghost in the Machine. I really liked this beer. The 3 bottles i had went too fast. But for their first shot at a DIPA, this went very well. With feedback and input, I can just see this thing becoming incredible.
Now i seriously doubt the hipsters that are hating on Parish, can actually discuss in depth each beer Parish provides. I think they just think it's cool to hate on it now, because it is popular.

it really does seem that the people that hate on Parish have only had Canebrake

Abita Vanilla Double Dog? That was their best before Abita launched their Macchiato.
The increased market share of craft beer certainly has forced Abita to step up their game. Their Select's over the last year or two have been some of their best work.

it was the one they did as a draft select right before they bottled that vanilla porter in the bombers. i think they just called the select a vanilla porter, and the bomber was the double dog

I thought that beer was severely lacking, especially in the bottle. But a lot of people enjoyed it.

Now if we could get them to bottle some of the selects.

What do you consider a good Pale Ale? A good Wheat Beer?
Canbrake tastes like miller light and you can't taste any hops in Envie? Enlighten me
Dale's Pale Ale by Oscar Blues comes to mind as a solid pale ale. Deschuttes also has some good pale ale's, such as Mirror Pond.
Envie just had did not have much of a hop taste to it at all, and I expect that from a pale ale. It doesn't need to be super hoppy like an IPA, but I want to drink a pale ale when I want to taste some hops but not too much.
Mike Anderson's must have had the taps screwed up with Canebrake, because it was just terrible. I had it in a bottle about a year ago and it tasted better, but was still nothing to write home about. I'm not a big wheat beer drinker, but I do enjoy one from time to time. My favorite wheat beer is probably Oberon by Bell's.

Did you have an old Envie? Every Envie I have had has had a decent hop presence.

I didnt love the Macchiato, but it was good. Nowhere near the level of GiTM and GR.
I think enough has been said about Parish at this point. We appreciate it. We aren't bitching. If you don't appreciate it you're probably being obtuse. Good talk.
