I have some family coming in from out of town who have never been to NOLA, let alone the South or even Louisiana.

What would everyone reccomend for eats for a New Orleans-type experience? Only going to be there one night, so will only have probably three meals — lunch, dinner and lunch.

I usually eat at the likes of Dominica, Shaya, Peche, Cochon, but figured I'd show them to maybe traditional cuisine.

TIA

Bloody Mary's for breakfast

Poboy from Parkway or Parasol, dealer's choice.

Commander's

Also, be sure to throw in some oysters from Drago's, but don't waste your time eating entrees there.

Since they've never been to Louisiana at all, if they're going to be in NO on a weekday, lunch at Bon Ton might be fun for them to try a crawfish dish or so if you think they'd enjoy that. If not, perhaps K-Paul's to hit a little South Louisiana fare.

I agree that Commander's is a good place for dinner.

If you want to show them old New Orleans fare, Galatoire's or Arnaud's, though Bon Ton can offer some of that, as well.

There are so many avenues you could go. A good poboy is hard to beat, but not always high on the list of out of towners on a first time visit.

I love beignets and most folks have heard of them and would like to try them, but with only a few meals and a short stay, it's a tough call. Maybe Cafe du Monde for a mid afternoon snack. One beignet and a cup of coffee is all you need to get the gist. Then, walk it off around Jackson Square and the FQ afterward.

Maybe head to the Carousel Bar for a drink at about 5.

One place I like that has a big menu selection of all the New Orleans favorites is Jacque Imos on Carrolton. Plus its right next to Maple Leaf so its a twofer.

Depending on the age of these people, I would hit up a bar that does crawfish boils during one, like Bayou Beer Garden, etc.

Windsor Court still has the good 4 course lunch Mon thru Sat for just short of 20 bucks. What they don't tell you is that you get an amuse as well as 3 scoops or sorbet for dessert. The selections for each week are on the website.

I always see Parkway recommended for poboys, but where would someone from New Orleans send someone from out of town to get a poboy in the French Quarter?

Where are they from? Are they adventurous seafood eaters? How old?

One from the West coast, one from up north.

One probably couldn't give a shite where we eat. They both just want to experience NOLA. I don't think we can go wrong with restaurants I usually go to, but I figured they'd want some seafood or local things to try.

I've actually never been to Commander's so maybe we can do that for dinner.

It's a pretty common theme around here that I agree with for giving someone a good experience of the city. There are better restaurants and there are better cajun/creole places on a smaller scale, but CP just fits this kind of thing perfectly.

The very reason I booked it today for an upcoming trip. Looking forward to it.
