Red Wagon is prob one of the 2 longest standing businesses in harahan. It's pretty much cafeteria style food, made to serve fast because they get a nice lunch crowd.
Been serving to harahan blue collar workers for like 50 years. To get in and out with a hot meal or a big po boy at a decent price, and get back to work.

Blue Tomato is going through the motions. They do enough business to stay open but they haven't seasoned a dish in years. Needs new ownership/management.
I think this area can stand on it's own and be honestly judged. No one is saying they are being compared to the best in NOLA. But bad food is bad food. The Shimmy Shack has mediocre food on a good day. Several places in the area have similar menus and are executing it better.

Parenton's should be mentioned for sure. That new BBQ place opened today where the Philly place was.
ETA: My brother went over to the BBQ place and they can't open because of a gas leak. Won't open until about 2:00. He got a card for a free pulled pork sandwich for his troubles.

I don't know. That's setting the bar pretty low. Although Elmwood does have a Nacho Mama's, which is the most puke-inducing food I've ever had put in front of me.
La Profecia still around? I went a couple years ago and it was really solid. There's a place over near the aiport Fiesta Latina .. not Harahan, but is it any good?

That place is fricking disgusting. From the staff, to the atmosphere, to the furniture, to the food, to the water they serve. Just awful on all accounts.

Taq Corona isn't great but neither is it shite, IMO. Will say I rarely eat there if at all. Just saying there's a little hyperbole in play.

And the BBQ is Dickey's. I've had it before and it's pretty meh.
