Did Blue Tomato ever go through a clean up or renovation lately? I remember liking the food well enough, but it was one dirty looking place at times.

We all have different taste and I'm glad for it.
I loved Corona. Didn't care for Shimmy Shack. Red Wagon was boring. Like Koz's. Loved Hickory Cafe.
I love me some lunch specials or sandwhiches at River Shack.

Blue Tomato got a new roof recently. not sure if they re-did the inside. But it was always a tight squeeze

Rivershack is solid. As are those other places. Rivershack is a place people want to believe is better than it is. Oh they have a "chef" (lol)? Unique building? Off the beaten path? Well, they must be doing some good stuff over there!

Meanwhile,

Corona-- in a strip mall? Yuck!

Red Wagon-- open 50+ years doing generic plate lunches? No thanks!

Shimmy Shack-- Rivershack rip off and silly sign out front! Ugh!

Blue Tomato-- too mainstream now! I ate there before it was cool! I'll pass!

Lots of straw men up in here.

I don't think anyone, at least not myself, has said that just because it's Harahan/Elmwood there automatically can't be good restaurants. I think there are plenty of quality joints to eat at out here. I based my opinions off of the food I've had at these places, the vast majority of it being quite mediocre if not flat-out bad.

the fish tacos at Corona are the best in the area by far. Always add a little black mojo sauce

Haven't been to Blue Tomato in years, but they have renovated. New roof and stuff definitely.

No place in Harahan/Elmwood is going to blow you away.

Ive only been to Shimmy Shack a few times and it's decent enough. But I don't go in there expecting a Company Burger or duck fat trufle fries or shite like that. It's a typical lunch for that area.

If you go to Red Wagon you have to know what the special is that day. Their hamburger steak and paneed veal are pretty good. Then they will put the debris gravy over their potatoes and give you a legit cup of banana pudding for desert. It's no frills plate lunches. Add a little salt and pepper if you need and enjoy

I disagree Harahan pound for pound has the best dinning in the 504.

Kim Ahn's top 5 restaurant in the city

Oak Oven top 5 pizza in the city and the best pasta in town.

Hillbilly BBQ top 5 maybe 3 BBQ joints in town.

Seithers is awesome

Bevi Seafood is a game changer

Harahan ez stop is legit too

I stand by my comments about corona and blue tomato. Coronas are all over it's just not a Harahan problem.

Well, my friend, you have certainly eaten a lot more bad meals in your lifetime than you have good. Could be your exquisite taste or your smoker's palate. To each their own though

That sounds pretty good. You and LE seem to really go to bat for Red Wagon so maybe I'll give it another shot. Had a really bad roast beef poboy there once though.

Also throwing into the ring a couple of decent places: Caffe Latte Da + Huckleberry's (RIP)

I agree for the most part

I will agree that their po boys have always been lackluster. Gotta go with the plates if you go there.

I'm dead serious about Mahoney's. You can complain about the price and what not but IMO they have the best menu of poboys in town.

Yes indeed. That building can't catch a break.

Oh yeah, don't forget your boys over at Emmett's. That's a solid little place so grab some meats on the way home.

Man, for a bunch of people that seem to hate crossing the parish line, yall are passionate about some Elmwood/Harahan/River Ridge food.

In work in the area and lunch is a necessity. I do back track across the parish line sometimes but every now and then I get adventurous.

I ate at a Rummel alumni event last night at Green Acres. I got my shots before though so I'm good.
