The Breslin

Have a Scotch egg and one of their lamb burgers. Also, their French fries are the best. Great bar to hang out at.

I wish I knew more about NYC but I like and not limited to midtown. Im sure to someone with way more NYC info will look at this list and scream noob, but here it goes:

Coffee: Stumptown in the Ace

Lunch fare: Gramercy Tavern, X'ian Famous Foods, pizza/pasta spot in Eataly, Salvation Taco, Earl's Beer and Cheese.

Drinks/Snacks: Death & Co., Employees Only, John Dory (oysters and martini/wine), Bemelman's Bar.

Dinner: il Vagabondo, The Dutch, Momofuku, Balthazar (some will say this place is overrun with tourists and is not good, but I love the spot).

Late night fare: Mad for Chicken at Turntable.

Spotted pig

A very nice looking lady on the plane to NYC recently, suggested Spotted Pig. The gnudi, basically ricotta dumplings, come highly recommended. Have yet to try them though.. Maybe next trip.

This Burger List is posted on Spotted Pig's website. The burgers look over the top.

Hunt and Fish Club looks fantastic, but I personally haven't been there.. It looks like a place that should be on everyone's list.

I hear there's an Applebee's in Times Square.

Just kidding, I KNOW there's one there. We had breakfast one morning since it was right next to the hotel.

As "Un-New York" as Applebee's might be, I'd wager the Times Square location is one of the top producing stores in the country. Can you IMAGINE the rent? (Pardon the NY pun)

be prepared to wait 3 hours to get seated at spotted pig. if you want to go for dinner, plan to get there around 6 or 630 and then go grab drinks nearby for a few hours while you wait. they'll call when your table is ready and will give you next available table when you arrive.

artichoke for pizza by the highline on 10th ave

any of the momofuku restaurants

the smith (any of the locations) is always a good atmosphere

public for something more upscale

katz is expensive but tourists generally love it (and the pastrami is delicious)

I'm actually going to NY on May 12. Never done Shake Shack because the line is usually so long.. I read though, that one is opening in Penn Station.

There are Shake Shacks all over the damn place. Strolled right into one on 3rd Ave betw 39th and 40th a couple weeks ago, just after noon, and there was only a 3-5 person line. Was very happy to have a draft Abita Root beer...and the chicken sandwich is legit.

If you're into ramen, Ippudo (nicer resto, go at off hours) or Totto (no frills basement, very japanese) are good Hell's Kitchen choices.

A stroll through the Union Square greenmarket is always fun, with plenty of snacking options. Pennsylvania dutch pretzels, the goodies from Hot Bread Kitchen, fresh apple cider, etc. Deets here: LINK

Just got back from NY. Was seated immediately at Spotted Pig. Did Gramercy Tavern and had a Prix Fixe lunch that featured a Duck Breast and Sausage plate with a ragut that was amazing.
Also went to Tao Downtown, which was also really good. My favorite was the lobster egg rolls.
Checked out Death Ave at 315 10 Ave which is a Greek inspired tavern. Great atmosphere, drinks and food.
Went to the Union Square Farmer's Market on Saturday and picked up some fresh picked Honeycrisp apples. If you haven't had a locally grown Honeycrisp, you really haven't eaten an apple. Also had some of my favorite cheeses and breads from Hawthorne Valley and pickled string beans from Beth's, and stopped by and saw the good folks at Berkshire Berries. I love the Farmer's Market and the people there. One of my favorite things to do in the city.
Went by Eataly and had my favorite, Straiccino melted between thin pizza crust slices, eggplant pizza and sausage and peppers. Had a plate of Calzoncini, which is mini calzone, stuffed with spinach and kale and wrapped with prosciutto. Delizioso.
