My cousin is coming in from DC to visit his son at Tulane, and I am driving over for dinner with them Saturday night. What would be some recommendations for dinner? Not really looking for the extravagant, but something good. TIA.

You need to be alot more specific. What part of town, what kind of food, and what price range.

Something within 15 or 20 minutes of Tulane, seafood/local cuisine, and not $100/person. I know that's not much but just looking for suggestions.

Martinique is right by Tulane and has some of the best outdoor seating in the city.

My first choice would be Brigtsens.
Second would be Clancy's.

Btw, everything in N.O. is within 15 minutes of Tulane and all but maybe 2 or 3 places would be less than $100 person.
So yes, Commanders is in play.

Have fun and let us know what you choose and how it works out.

Superior Seafood or Cafe Atchafalaya might fit your situation well. Both have gotten good recs from folks here, lately.

If you want to go really casual, you could go to Casamento's. Limited menu, but it sure is good.

Umm...you might want to think of some places that aren't gonna have the Jazz Fest crowds.

Jacques-Imo's, for example, would be a nightmare this weekend.

Yes.

They will be at an hour wait by 6:00 this weekend and much longer by 6:30.

The best thing I can tell you right now is start calling places that this thread has suggested.
After that, look on nomenu.com and search for places uptown and start calling them. Reservations will be a must. PGA tourney, jazzfest, lots of weddings, etc, etc. N.O. will be rocking this weekend.

Definitely start calling now. You may have to take what you can get at this point. Superior is relatively new, so maybe some of the out of towners won't know about it.

+1 Atchafalaya

Unless you have 5+ people you can't make ressies at Jacques-Imo...so you're looking at a 1.5 - 2 hour wait.

I really didn't like ti compared to other seafood options, I would have rathered Copeland's, honestly.

Op

Dante's Kitchen
Melange Speakeasy
Rue 127
Commander's Palace
Muriel's (my top choice)

One of my favorite things to do is to drive by JacquesImo's on Jazzfest evenings and watch the hundreds of pseudo-hipster out-of-towners hoping to jam into that place like sardines to enjoy their "authentic New Orleans experience" that can only be offered by a guy from Chicago.

For the record, I actually like the place okay, I just find this phenomenon amusing.
