We won't have a car, but will be staying at Declan Suites on A and 7th between the Gaslamp district and Balboa Park. Any suggestions or "musts" for food in the area? I think we are fairly close to a rail station so we could probably venture a little further out if needed. 1 or 2 Mexican places are a must, but other stuff would be great too. Thanks!

The Fish Market, order the cioppino, it's the best, as good as any place in SF, Ca.

I was in SD last month, and the best thing I ate was fish tacos from El Pescador, a taco truck in the parking lot of a Toys R Us in Chula Vista. It's right by the train tracks, though I don't know if the train stops nearby. Easily accessible by car. LINK /

Also liked Underbelly (ramen, in Little Italy)....

I'm trying to remember the name of the place there that brought the fried fish taco to the U.S.

So good

I also recommend taking the scenic highway up to Carlsbad. Great views of the coast and lots of good places to stop for food

OB Noodle House is the best pho and chicken wings I have had. Its been on the food network a couple times. Same with Hodaddy's burgers.
