EXTREMELY greasy and crust did not hold up well. Wasn’t remotely foldable and looked like a BP spill next to the greasiest Shlitz and Giggles pizza I have ever had.

I agree. I so wanted to like this place. I sat and talked to the owner while he made my pizza to go. He seemed a bit bitter bc business wasnt that good. He blamed Louisiana for not knowing real NY pizza from the crap out there.

Got home excited and the dough was gooey and floppy and undercooked - had to remove the onions bc they were too raw. Chalk it up to him not cooking it long enough or not, it was not good.

I do want to give it another show, bc I really want this place to do well and I am pulling for the owner.

As I mentioned earlier, the one thing I noticed was that he put too much cheese on the pizzas and the crust could not hold up. I think the crust is OK but it does tend to get soggy in the middle.

I like Mama Dellas and it is probably my favorite pizza in the city, but compared to other top-of-the-line NY style pizzas I've had through the years it's really average. Maybe that's why he came to Louisiana?

You really need to eat in. I live very close and do not take them to go anymore because it does not travel well at all. It's a totally different product when you eat in.

Maybe if he put out a better product that wouldn't be an issue.

No dont care for Johnny's

Mama Della isnt just a "little" greasy. It had more grease than any NY Style pizza I have ever had in my life by far. I at least 10 napkins full of grease and that still wasnt enough I couldnt taste shite other than grease. So I tried the dough alone to see If maybe I should have just ordered cheese. Nope no flavor. The outside of the crust easily cracked with no bend while the middle just fell apart. NY Style is by far my favorite style of pizza too.

Best I have had in BR was Johnny D's before he moved. (he went to crap after he moved before he closed)

When the place was completely empty the way it was when I went there is no excuse to putting out such a bad pizza.

All I could think about was the number of people on this board that give Shlitz and Giggles shite for being greasy but this place gets a pass??? If I took the grease off of 3 Shlitz and Giggles pepperoni pizza's and poured it onto one pizze I dont know If I would have had equal.

BTW forgot to add that the pepperoni tasted more like the you get in the grocery store to make home pizza. Maybe that was why so greasy

I picked up a to go order when they first opened. It did not travel well and I was not impressed. I'd give them another shot only if dining in.

I love when people get a pepperoni pizza then complain about grease. Anyway, these pics from a previous Mama Della's thread don't make their pizza look any greasier than any other good NY style pizza I've had...probably less so.

That pizza does look good in the pic. I had a few other ingredients on mine and it was way undercooked. FWIW - Deangelos burned pizzas twice at the location on Jefferson near Mama Della's but they are nowhere near the place they were in the late 90"s early 2000's

Mam Dellas - Dine in - I will give them one more chance

Can someone please explain FDL to me? It reminds me of cheap pizza you would serve to a large group of children at a birthday party. Am I missing something?

I've had FDL two times in my whole life. Once was when I was like 10 years old, so I do not remember it. The other time was a year-ish ago and I don't remember being wowed.

That said, I am not AT ALL a pizza person. I've had Mama Della's a few times and while I can certainly see where it's better than other pizzas (I hate pepperoni pizza, so I like that they have pizzas with fresh veggies), it's still a pizza at the end of the day.

No offense, but what the hell DO you like to eat? Seems you hate every food known to mankind.

Actually, there's pretty much nothing I refuse to eat. If you put a plate down in front of me, I'll eat it. In fact, I get angry when people refuse something at someone's home because I find that as an adult, it's fairly easy to force yourself to tolerate something and even enjoy it.

I just have things I like more than others and pizza is one of the ones I am not a freak about like some people are. It's something I eat when I'm craving it and that's about it.

I picked up a pizza yesterday on the way home from work to check it out. Never again. Don't get a pizza to go. That pizza does not hold up well at all. The middle just becomes a mushy mess after an hour of bringing home. Don't bother getting your hopes up for a decent cold pizza breakfast the next morning. Half the pizza went straight into the garbage.

Holds up fine for the 10 minutes to my house. I agree that the crust is pretty inedible the next day.
