That was the experience I had dining in with a fresh pizza.

BTW from that thread:

quote:

The pizza was probably the greasiest I've ever had

I concur.

quote:

If you say you didn't like the pizza because it was greasy, then you don't like NY pizza

BY FAR my favorite style of pizza. I have had it all over including there. Not once has ANY NY STYLE pizza remotely approached the grease level of the pizza I ate that day and yes I know pepperoni produces grease but Im talking a 1:1 comparison of the same pizzas. Do you have a picture of the pizza I was served because it was horrific and looks nothing like the one you show.

Looks like service is an ongoing issue too.

But that thread is one of the reasons I went. It wasnt the worst pizza I have had but was the greasiest. I just couldnt taste shite and the crust was a horrible example of NY style.

In BR? Used to like Johnny D's the best like I said earlier before he moved off Jones Creek. Of course thats no more.

I honestly prefer Shlitz and Giggles to Mama Della's There are not many other places to compare anymore. Which is why Mama Dellas I was looking forward to. DeAngelos is ok but nothing great. Havent tried this food truck pizza that is raved about would like to try. In NOLA area I like Tower of Pizza and Brooklyn. Theos is ok. I like Grimaldis just fine when Im traveling.

Sorry I dont like the place you like. But I was served a very BAD and Greasy pizza. You can argue that its NY Style but Im sorry If NY Style is supposed to taste like grease after you suck up 10 napkins or so of grease already then maybe I dont like NY style as much as I think I do and somehow all the other places are doing it wrong by making pizza that doesnt taste like grease

Question: Traditional NY Style. Foldable or not? Should the crust break or be more elastic? Should the pizza fall apart 2-3 inches from the middle or fall immediately to the pan?

Johnny D's was great, ate there as much as anyone for the brief time they had their two locations, but I don't see any difference between them and MD's.

I like Schlitts for the most part, I'm usually one of the few to defend them on here. DeAngelo's used to be fantastic, but damn, they've gone downhill on quality of ingredients and product. Yep, Grimaldi's is awesome.

I don't fold my pizza, which is weird I guess, since I'm from the NE. I can think of one place I've ever eaten pizza, it was in Eatontown, NJ...that the crust was thin, but crispy enough to hold up when held out straight. MD's, Johnny D's, DeAngelo's (in their prime), none of them do that...you're, right. Even when I ate at Lombardi's in NY, the crust didnt hold up like I hoped. Tasted incredible though.

I was hoping MD's would be my Johnny D's replacement. (Still miss that lunch buffet he had where the lady would force you to eat some things lol)

Im not talking about holding the crust out straight and it falling apart. I had to literally take a fork and eat that part off the pan there and it wouldnt hold up no matter how it was pulled. It wasnt undercooked just seemed to be something wrong with the dough not being put together enough. Maybe I will return one day. But Im not sure how long he can stay open. When I was in there for 1 hour lunch break the entire time there was only 1 other person in the place and I didnt see any to go orders. That cant be good.

Remember, we are talking about Baton Rouge here. I am not claiming Mama Della's to be great by any means, but it is still the best in Baton Rouge.

I agree that the middle becomes mush within an hour, and that the crust is inedible the next day. Still, I'd put it on an even level with Roma. I can see how some would prefer Roma, but I could also see how some would prefer MD's. I don't consider either one to be great.

Also, I was a frequent visitor to Johnny D's and I don't think it was any better than Mama Della's.

But really, what else is there? Isabellas? CPK? Red Zeppelin? Schlitz & Giggles? Whole Foods? I wouldn't consider any of them to be great, either.

I def find both of these better. I havent had Red Zeppelin. I would rather have a Rotolos pizza as well. Isabellas I love the sandwiches but my god the service there is maybe the worst in BR.

The pizzas I've had from there looked more like the ones in the pic on the previous page. Had a large pepperoni, sausage and mushroom the other day and took half of it home. Was equally good the next day. Nice and foldable crust.

The server last week was great. Probably the best I've encountered there.

Give it another shot.

I've never had Schiltz & Giggles, but I've never really heard anybody talking about it, either.

I mean all of the BR pizza joints are pretty average. I forgot to mention Mellow Mushroom in my previous post, also. I know a few people who love that place.

I do like some mellow mushroom! I love to dip the crust in Esperanza sauce. That stuff is like crack to me
