I've got several pieces of regular cast iron, but want to get some larger pieces or either magnalite or enameled. What are the pros and cons of each? I've read that the magnalite now isn't what it was years ago, but nothing really is

I got a 6 qt Le Creuset dutch oven for Christmas and love it so far. Makes a great pot of gumbo. Can't really comment on the magnalite.

Got one of the large(r) magnalites, fairly new. Just a few years old.

No complaints. Makes a mess of gumbo, can roast a whole turkey in it as long as it's not hellishly big.

A lot cheaper than an ole overpriced Le Creuset, too.

Try Lodge enameled. Like it better than my magnalite

I have a lodge enamel 7.5 quart and it's a tank. I cook about 75% of my meals in it.

I had a lodge enamel 6qt I think was the size. The bottom enamel coating popped off one night sounded like a gun going off. I've wanted to try another one but I'm not sure about them.

$ vs. $$$ - This is an apple and orange comparison in my opinion. I use cast iron and enameled cast iron a lot.

We've had this discussion before and some posters agree that there is a difference between old Magnalite, which I have from 30 years ago; and new Magnalite which you would have to be buying. The consensus was that the new stuff is not so good. I don't know if they changed ownership or just changed the production to save money.

If you want what was the old Magnalite, it's now WagnerWare. I love cooking in both. Made in the USA, unlike what is now made under the Magnalite name.

Careful with that Wagnerware, Yes it is made in the US and the same as the old Magnalite. But it is a different company and my understanding is they are not doing good financially.
I tried to order a few knobs and played hell dealing with then and never got one of the knobs I paid for.

If you want Magnalite, I recommend Mcware from Mamou, LA. Yes its made in China, but its just like the old Magnalite. Goodwood hardware and a few other hardware stores around BR carry it.

Well, shite. I just ordered an 18" oval the other day.

I have some McWare. I like it. I've only had it for a few years, so I don't know if it will hold up as well as the old magnalite.

I bought the 4 quart McWare sauce pot when I stopped at Stelly's in Lebeau a few years ago. I liked the look because it was tall with a handle. Not a piece Magnalite ever made that I'm aware of. I like it.

Honestly..... I'd go Magnalite. I find I can brown onions and meat better with my Magnalites.

Might want to see if you can cancel that payment.
There used to be a lot of complaints on yelp, Now it just says closed.

Now this.

Like I said, I received one of the two knobs I ordered, but never got a response or credit for the second. I sent at least 10 emails to them.
