Jay and Eddie are the obvious front runners.

Eddie is far ahead right now because he can cook consistently. I'd prefer to watch Jay, but would way prefer Eddie's food.

The thing Jay has going for him is that once he has a show nobody eats the food, so as long as it looks good he would be great for TV.

As an aside, if Jay got a show, what would be his POV? Louisiana?

Dom is painful to watch, but dang, Emilia was just shocking! It takes a very special personality to be able to make fun of people without being offensive. She doesn't have it at all.

Arnold's reaction to her was priceless. "Oh no you didn't"

Outdoor/tailgate cooking.

Ah yes! Thanks. I would totally watch that. I wonder if there would be enough demand though. Not everyone is as obsessed with tailgating as LSU/SEC people.

I assume so. I never open this thread or the Masterchef thread unless I am current

As in last night's episode? Sure.

Something past that... nah.

I can see Jay doing some cooking contests at tailgates across the country. There's a plethora of ideas I'm sure he has already for a show if that becomes a topic in a future episode. I know they touched on each person's perspective of a tv show early on, but they've really gotten away from that to test the contestants.

I do agree that Eddie has the best resume so far, but in terms of being tv show ready, Jay has that in the bag. His only bad presentation was in episode 2, and it wasn't really that bad...it was just saying the same thing over and over and sounded too rehearsed. Since then, he's destroyed that aspect of the show. Anyway, curious to see what comes next!

Dom has outstayed his welcome already. I don't think he's ever going to get the hang of speaking well enough to have his own show. If Emelia hadn't dumped on the other contestants the way she did, he would have gone. I admit that my mouth opened wide a bit when she said she announced she was going to attack her competitors. If she got her own show, was she going to take down competing shows on Food Network? I was surprised the judges didn't comment more strongly on her behavior.

I'd watch Jay because of his ties to LA, but honestly, unless the show was getting great reviews, I'm not sure I'd watch any of them after the show ends. I watch Sara Moulton from time to time when I'm surfing. I didn't even realize she'd been on this show until this year. I don't think I watch any other winners aside from DDD reruns sometimes.

Yeah, Eddie is lacking in that regard. He was originally doing his 'cheat day' idea, but it seems like he's gotten away from it. I think he actually scrapped it entirely to focus on 'fit chef' or something like that. Jay is at least trying to incorporate LA and tailgating whenever possible.

Yeah, I've sort of lost everyone's perspective at this stage. Seems to change with the tests.

I think one thing in Jay's favor is the way he handles pressure. His dough was way undercooked last night on his pizza, by he just shruggwdbit off, since there was nothing he could do about it. Good attitude.

Here's Jeff Mauro's review and you can also click on Emilia's exit interview.

Time’s up. Hands up. Jay begins with another fluid delivery. The guy might as well be hocking Satsuma ShamWows at 3:00 a.m. on QVC.

I would love to watch that.

It was actually pretty good. The people saying it wasn't good had personalities like actuaries. He said the same thing for each presentation because why not when each group has not heard it?

That was great. Duff was so ready to dig into that pizza based on presentation. I would think that is a critical skill for this show.

Odds:

Eddie is at 3:2 - Good chef, good personality, and bring new life to Food Network's cast of personalities

Jay is at 4:1 - Would put on a great show, but would not have the versatility of Beat Bobby Flay, Iron Chef, etc. Great delivery, but better delivery than chef.

Arnold is at 6:1 - Very similar to Jay, but I think Arnold might be a better chef with lesser presentation skills (Keep it together, Arnie). Not sure if Food Network is ready for such a brazen character on its label.

Dom is at 10:1 - This is a generous rating. Food Network loves his skills, but he just does not have the personality for the business. Perhaps a stiff drink might help him relax.

Michelle is at 12:1 - She is "good and good". Good personality and good chef. I think you need to thrive at one or the other to be taken seriously in this competition.

Alex is at 15:1 - We get it. You like sandwiches. Food Network already has that guy on staff. You are applying for a filled position. Good luck to you, good sir.

How can y'all remember to even look at those votes? I rarely notice them the majority of the time.

The fact is that Jay is good at his presentations and I think he can up the game on the cooking. Eddie is also good at his presentations and I think he's exceeded Jay in the cooking, so far. Might come down to the substance of the new show the network is looking for.
