I'm thinking about taking someone there for dinner for a date.

More expensive than Carraba's or Olive Garden.

Define expensive. If me and my wife go and have a bottle of wine, we are talking $125 ish. If you don't drink alcohol and keep apps to a minimum, you can get out of there for about $60-70.

Depends on what you order and how much you drink but I usually spend give or take $100.00 on a date night.

I don't find it expensive. I think you get what you pay for there, for sure.

I don't get, however, why restaurants like them choose not to put prices on their online menus. If you stand behind what you're serving (as Ginos well should), why play hide the ball online?

Two can eat for $40-$50 with tip and no drinks.
Two can eat for $80-$100 with tip and no drinks.
Two can eat for $120-$150 for a nice meal and a bottle of wine.

That's not expensive to me, but I'm rich.

A restaurant consultant named Langland told them it was the in thing to do.

I have no inside information, but if they have changed prices frequently, but do not update the website very frequently, they may be worried about running afoul of Louisiana's consumer protection laws.

I don't find it expensive for what it is, but it depends on what "expensive" means to you. Also, depends on what you order. The prices there vary based on the dish. You can get pizza or steak or a veal chop or a pasta dish, all of which vary a good bit in price. I enjoy the place very much.

Go to Digiulio's. I prefer it over Gino's. I like the food better but also Gino's sister always tries to make me sit at the two top by the kitchen door and that pisses me off. We have a standing grumbling.

Or if you want to get away from the standard red sauce joint go to Nino's. I don't think he has a pasta over $20.00 and all are fresh pasta made daily. Elton is a great chef.

The thing about Nino's that pisses me off is they will close randomly. You can show up at 8 on a normal night and they closed 30 minutes earlier because they were slow. That tells me that business is bad and people must not like your restaurant. I ate there once, found the food to be decent but I am not going to get my heart set on Ninos to find out it closed early today.

I've been going there since well before Elton bought it I'd say about 10 years ago and I've never once seen it randomly closed. And if business is bad at his restaurant than it is bad all over the city. Place turns the tables twice three nights a week and is full the others.

I really find Gino's, DiGiulio's and Nino's to be different although Italian in nature. I like them all for different reasons, though I eat at Gino's more often due to my cannelloni addiction...well, and there's the Lawrence bread and I happen to love the caprese salad there, as well.

DiGuilio's and Nino's are also both super date night restaurants. Don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3.
