It's not bad stuff for a mixer or even drinking with some rocks. It's not rare or valuable though

Used to be but not anymore. I don't think it was ever exclusively 4R juice either. Diageo was sourcing juice from wild Turkey and I think a few others

In 2008, Diageo made a rare, definitive statement about who makes Bulleit Bourbon. "Bulleit Bourbon continues to be wholly distilled at the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY according to exacting standards developed by Tom Bulleit and the Bulleit Distilling Company. Bulleit Bourbon’s bold flavor is the product of a unique recipe featuring a high proportion of the rye grain and the use of a proprietary yeast culture. As with all Kentucky straight Bourbons, Bulleit Bourbon is aged in charred barrels made from new American Oak and contains absolutely no additives whatsoever."

That was years ago. People say it's sourced from all over these days.

I think 4R has to renew per the agreement when Diageo (United Distillers at the time) and Pernod decided to buyout Seagram's and break it up amongst themselves. (Kirin has to oblige the contract). But more than likely it was limited to a certain amount of gallons, and therefore Diageo needed to go elsewhere to meet demand.

Bulleit 10 & Bulleit Rye are their best offerings. Pretty serviceable whiskeys.

So basically most of their lineup, in your opinion?

Why are bourbon distributors so secretive about who makes their swill?

Purely BS marketing mystique?

didnt Diageo has fully disclosed that Bulleit Rye is MGP of Indiana's 95% rye, which is the same rye Angel's Envy and about a dozen other NDPs use?

Yeah. But to be fair, almost all rye whiskies are made by MGP. Not one distiller thought that rye was going to make a comeback. Very few make their own. Beam does, Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace produced eyes, and Willett.

Your Dickel, Bulleit, Templeton, and almost all the Micros distilleries use MGP for their Rye. And many of the Micros use MGP for their bourbon.

I'm pretty sure the Rye is made at the big factory in indiana that sources what most think are "craft" whiskeys.

What is the cheapest version of that Rye.

Are they all distilled at the same place or distilled and aged there?

that joint generally makes a recipe that the company then takes back and ages. but, i also think they do the whole process in indiana as well.

Next time you go to BinQ or Calandros tell them you want something that isn't made in that big factory. takes them a few minutes to find you something.
4 roses, jim bean products, makers, blantons and several other "standards" are all made in house. Many of these guys are brand new and just haven't had time to age the whiskey. they will eventually, just not yet.... a prime example is High West. They will eventually sale their own product. At least they tell you they haven't distilled in house. Many lie...

its one of the reasons i'm so damn adamant about buying Garrison Bros out of Hye Texas. I did the tour. they do everything on site. the single barrel i'm drinking right now is pretty damn good.
