We want to take 90 out of New Orleans and wind up in Lafayette. Maybe a 2 months from now.

Where do we need to stop? look? Eat?

TIA

Keep on going about 3 miles past laffy to Scott on I 10, take Cankton-Scott exit north to Best Stop, come back south to interstate and catch Billy's and Dons. Boudin, cracklings, get a bag of each from all, to taste test.

You can also pull off at the Troop C exit, go north and Bourgeois Meat Market is 5 or 6 miles off Hwy 90

Morgan City: Avoid

Unless you want to tour Mr. Charlie, the first moveable and submersible drilling rig. Of course, not everybody wants to.

Tabasco and Jungle Gardens at Avery Island?

Lake Martin for a swamp tour.

Don't eat at just one place in Lafayette. Take a Cajun Food tour with Marie. You'll get a good taste of the area.

It's only a 2 hour drive, I drive it often and there's lots of food, but not many places I would drive out of my to get to. But's maybe that's just me.

Mosca's in Avondale/Westwego is about 20 minutes from NO, and probably the best restaurant on that stretch of road, (old hwy 90). Oysters Mosca is worth the drive. Other good dishes also if you don't like oysters. Interesting back story there about the restaurant.

Sparh's is good, get a Bloody Mary
Bourgeois Meat Mkt (beef jerky & hog head cheese),
Yellow Bowl in Jeanerette (real cajun cooking)
Riverside in Broussard (more Cajun food)
Lots of choices in the Lafayette (one f in Lafayette by the way).

Have a nice drive!

There is a small museum in Pattrtson right on side of 90, that features cypress lumbering history and some racing airplanes from years ago. It is free and pretty neat to Check out all the old lumbering equipment. I think it's called we wendell- Williams aviation and cypress museum. There is a F-4 phantom out in front. Also, four mile bayou road is a scenic gravel road that starts in stephensville.stop at the mosquito bar and Gros at the end of the road. There is a band playing at Gros on the weekend.

Marie has Cajun Food Tours company. She drives the colorful little bus, takes you to about six places, gives you a history of the area and tells a few Cajun jokes. Her destinations vary, but the tour is good, imho.

Cajun Food Tours

Janky is right, don't eat at Avery Island. There is a new little restaurant on site, but I've heard (but not eaten there myself) that it's overpriced with small portions. I do know the menu is pretty limited.

Tabasco also now runs a food tour, but I haven't read reviews.

If you're going to Avery Island, be aware the Tabasco factory doesn't run on Fridays.

I tell you what, after living in Miami for years and eating Cuban sandwiches, I have only found one place that rivals the Cuban sandwich from Latin Corner in Morgan City. Haven't been there in years but it use to be damn good. Make sure to get the hot sauce they have in a small container. It will make you sweat.
