I'm leery of any Fins 3 course meals. Dollar for dollar, I had one the worst New Orleans dinner at Fins. It was touted as a "tuna extravaganza".

I love tuna and saw it on a placard when I was dining there. I made reservations that night to return for the tuna extravaganza a month or so out.

The meal was not only a joke, but executed poorly. I requested any tuna to be cooked rare. Here's what ensued...

First course was tuna atop a tomato slice, 3 squirts of pure sriracha, and a garnish of seaweed salad, which I guarantee was not made in house. One of the no-no's in finer restaurants is that you don't put someone else's product on your plates without manipulating them somehow.

Onto the second course which was completely laughable. The star of the dish was no where near rare, disposable chopsticks were placed ON the plate (if I'm dining in at a restaurant the caliber of Fins I would expect more than disposable eating utensils...not a snob, but just saying), the seaweed salad was repeated in this course (really...you can't be more creative than that?) and the wasabi was stuck to the rim of dark soy sauce like a turd. Fail on all aspects. Boswell, Besh, and others would have pickled their own ginger ftw. Along with the seaweed salad, Fins had the ginger delivered to the restaurant and plated it as their own.

The third course was by far my favorite, the tuna cooked more towards rare with mushrooms and root vegetable.

There are so many dining options in New Orleans that I didn't return to Fins for some time until I was invited to dinner there with some friends. I had a really good meal and will be back. I'm just snake bit from a very feeble and pedestrian attempt at a 3 course "extravaganza".

Those first two courses look horrendous. The 2nd one especially. I think the Chinese joint down the street hands out the same chopsticks

Can't remember exactly so I didn't want to misrepresent the dish. I know it was something more than mashed potatoes. Perhaps celery root or cauliflower purée.

Woot...got a down vote for the pics and commentary. Apparently the food looks fantastic to at least one poster.

If I went to Fins for the Coolinary menu and the scalibut entree was on the menu I would have trouble getting anything else.

Had a fantastic meal there last time down. I'd give it a try.

I was wanting to try GW fins Coolinary menu tomorrow night but I don't think we will have time. We will try Arnaud's coolinary Friday for dinner.

You know, I have dined at Fins many times over the years and have always had a very nice meal with one exception.

I got the tuna special which was cooked rare and wrapped with seaweed and this special ponzu sauce.....

It was quality tuna but the dish was not very enjoyable and fell totally flat!

Maybe tuna is Tenney Flynn's kryptonite.

That's all I got.

Pelican Club has my favorite summer special menu every year. I love G W Fins. I didn't check it this year but in previous years the summer special menu was not available on weekends at Fins.

I'm hitting up Pelican Club Saturday. They seemed to have the most appealing and broad menu.
