Last time I was there a local recommended Pequod's on Clyborn. I'm not much of a Chicago style pizza fan but it had a funny name so wtf.
Anyway it was very good, and a great pub atmosphere. Not touristy at all..

Plenty of great choices if you're willing to pay for them. Chicago Chophouse gave me the best steak of my life.
On the cheap end, I actually really loved their porkbelly franchises. It's a step up from subway quality without the step up in price. Their breakfast sandwiches were damn near the best value one could find.
I really enjoyed Gino's East, though many people prefer other Deep Dish places.
25 degrees offered some simply outstanding hamburgers and a veggie burger so good that even a carnivore like myself would gladly make a meal out of it.

Portillos is an absolute MUST for the Italian beef. Don't get the combo with the sausage on it. Just the Italian beef, wet, with gravy on the side. Loved it. Best value in Chicago.
We did Giordanos for pizza because I've had Lou malnatti's before. Giordanos was really good and great atmosphere.
The original Harry Caray's restaurant/bar for lunch has outstanding pub food. Corned beef sandwich was on pernt.

There are several older threads on Chicago stops so look them up.
Food spots: The Publican, Purple Pig.

I just don't think people on this board(or in general) understand how many restaurants, and good restaurants at that, are in Chicago. It's almost(not quite) like asking, "I'm going to NYC, where should I eat". Do you want Pizza, hot dogs, casual food, Italian, seasonal/trendy, steak. And do you want a good wine, beer, or craft cocktails & bourbon list? Or do you just want to fill your belly?
We debate if NOLA would even have a Michelin starred restaurant if they came down to NOLA. Chicago has over 20.

I'll second Bavette's and offer Alinea. It's definitely worth the hassle of obtaining dinner tickets, the cost involved and the time investment.

Delilah's and Twisted Spoke.

Have a beer at Half Acre brewery and then walk across the street to the Bad Apple for a killer burger.
