Overall, I'd take the state of California over Belgium.
I'd take San Diego County alone
Milwaukee, Wisconsin... (and a few other strategically placed breweries around the country)

Haha, no one said that at all. You should go educate yourself a little more. Like you said, you are a fairly novice drinker. The worldwide consensus is that America makes the best beer. I enjoy the hell out of Belgian beer, but most of the innovation in the beer industry has been born in America. The Belgians do their centuries old styles really well, but they stopped there.

Well most of the world laughs at you because you're wrong.

Why you gotta get all defensive. Yes, Belgian beers are very good. Is that better?

Your opinion.

It's not even close. America is on another level. Belgium does their native styles better, but it stops there. America is even better at experimenting with those styles and creating new styles.

I can totally agree with this, that's why in the original post I was talking about the specific regions. My apologies for getting defensive.

I'm really not understanding your point or where you're going with this thread.
-You state your opinion that Belgians are the best beers.
-Proceed to get pissy with anyone disagrees calling them uneducated beer hillbillies who only drink Red Dog
-Then when faced with conventional wisdom and consensus opinions, you pull the "that's your opinion" card.

All this to ask, what are yall's favorites with regard to a general region?
I think America has long surpassed any other country's beer, including the belgians. Just like everything else, we take the idea from someone else, and improve upon it and make it better.

Nice Backtrack...just admit you shot off at the mouth and fall on your sword! we all respect the belgian style beers brewed in Belguim

An American website touting American beers go figure, I kid.
Westvletern 12 is #1 though.

I have no problem giving Belgium a strong #2 on the list, which is a great place to be

same can be said for Germany. When you have 1000 years of experience, it's no wonder why you are really good at something.

I won't buy it because it retardedly expensive. But it depends on style.
It may be the best quad, but i, personally, wouldn't put belgian style beers above american ipa's.
Hell, if you had a faceoff between pliny the elder of Russian River and Westy 12, i'd have to think more might buy Pliny that Westy, but it all depends on your taste.
Beer drinking is subjective, which is why it good.

At the moment, the American craft beer movement is the best beer in the world. This is just fact.

However, one of my favorite (maybe favorite) breweries is Cantillon in Belgium. Belgium has 6 or 7 breweries I really like (only one of these is trappist), while America has dozens.
