Since I developed the taste for good beer I haven't been able to settle on any one specific type (ie, Pale Ale, IPA, Stout, Porter, etc). Regardless, I have discovered a general area that tends to crank out a variety of beers that I like. The Belgians brew better beer, simply put, a mon avis. The Belgian/Netherland areas have the best in my opinion. I love the abbey ales (chimay/grimbergen), but also the euro pale lagers (stella artois).

All this to ask, what are yall's favorites with regard to a general region?

One of these days I'm going to visit Belgium. I'm not sure how much of that trip I'm going to remember, though

I too like the Belgian beers, but steer toward the Quads and ABT's. Not really a fan of most dubbels and I do enjoy some tripels and most of the darker abbey ales. My fav is St. Bernardus ABT 12 followed by Rochefort 10.

Once I get outside the Belgian beers I like stouts and lagers.

They brew the best Belgian brew.

Overall, I'd take the state of California over Belgium.

Everything other than Belgian beers

Not sure why you're rolling your eyes when someone disagrees with your opinion

I'd rather have an American craft beer than any Belgiun beer personally. But that is because my favorite beers are IPA's and Stouts.

Certainly a greater variety available here and I've had some darn good Belgian style Quads and Abbey Ale type beers brewed right here in the US...

This is how I am. I guess this shows my weakness as a beer geek or something. I've tried lots of belgiums, even some very expensive bottles and I just can't aquire a taste for that style.

I like hoppy west coast beers the most.

America brews the best beer in the world and its not even close. Most Belgians would agree with that as well.

Overall portfolio, yes percentage wise, Belgian makes more good than bad.

I roll my eyes when people think if tis not American its crap. People have been brewing beer much longer than we have. I'm not downing the craft industry here, its terrific and there is a lot of wonderful variety, I just laugh at the thought that the best is in this country.

This is an awful thread, and you have very little idea what you're talking about if you think it's anything more than your personal opinion that Belgians make the best beer.

I think a lot of that has to do with hundreds of years of brewing weeding out bad brews.

The craft beer movement in the US is fairly new. Give the US 50 years or so and all these shitty craft breweries that are popping up will fall on their faces while the cream stays at the top.
