I like my French Press, but part of the reason I like the Keurig is that I can get a nice hot second cup.

I know I can microwave the second cup from the press, but microwaved coffee can get a bit off.

What do you guys do?

I usually just make extra and keep it in a carafe.

Good idea.

My issue would be that now you have one more thing to clean in addition to the press.

Might need to be just a weekend thing for me.

I usually just make another cup in the french press. I only use mine on weekends so it's a nice lazy slow way to get my brew. During the week it's Keurig every day

I have a big French press which makes enough for three large cups of coffee.

ETA: It's this one, which is insulated.

Get one a thermos. I have this one, and it works great. If you boil extra water and pour it in the thermos while the coffee is brewing to preheat it, it will keep the coffee piping hot all day long. Just rinse it out after you're done.

That's what I do and it works great.

I guess I could see the problem if you had an extremely large french press. Mine only makes about 2 big cups. So the second cup is still hot when I'm ready for it.

I use a double-wall insulated stainless press. It does a reasonable job of holding the pot warm. I suspect the double wall glass models would work even better.

I wrap a clean kitchen towel around my large French Presh like a watched my barista in Paris do (subtle brag). It's all the insulation I need, along with a little warmed milk.

Love my French Press.

I don't use my press daily. Usually just on the weekends or when I have a day off. For those of you who just wrap the press or let the coffee sit until you want your next cup, do you find the flavor (bitter?) changes as the coffee sits? I ask because I recently read an article on extraction times and temperatures how they affect the taste of coffee.

You could use an aeropress:

We noticed that all breakfasts we got at BnBs were in a carafe. It had to be french pressed though since it was super strong.

Wouldn't the coffee continue to steep over the grounds unless you pour it off?

That's why I pour it in a Thermos, but it is still pretty drinkable if left in the carafe after pressed.

I have a 3-cup/1 mug press and an electric kettle that'll hold temps for a while. I usually only drink one cup on the weekends, but if I want two, the turnaround time is about 6 minutes from grind-to-press.

Mine is insulated and stays hot for over an hour. Long enough to drink the 3 cups.

Or get one of the heavy ceramic Le Creuset french press pots....it will stay warm for quite some time, esp if you preheat the pot w/boiling water before you brew.

because I am a sucker for really cool kitchen stuff, and nobody I know is going to buy me a $100 French Press.

It's going on my list though.
