Charles D'Agostino, executive director of the Louisiana Business and Technology Center, said food trucks in Louisiana have historically served employment sites with pre-made sandwiches, salads and pastries. He said the new trucks must comply with Board of Health and safety regulations as well as have proper permits and licenses while paying regular taxes.

"They should have minimal impact on the local economy as they cannot serve large numbers of people," D'Agostino said in an e-mail.

I do have to take issue with this. I think over time you will see a much larger and more positive impact on the local economy as more trucks hit the roads and they get better at doing this.

However, I don't really know what he's saying with the minimal impact thing. I have to take it as a jab at the trucks, but maybe that's because of who it is saying it and the tone I'm reading behind it. I know the D'Agostinos fairly well, and grew up and went to school with the family. They are the establishment, and to clarify Charles, they aren't serving pre-prepared crap food anymore sir.

So how do you know where these trucks are going to be if you do not have facebook or twitter?

Difficult right now without Facebook and Twitter, as that's zero cost to them... Perhaps they can get a mass email thing going where people can have updates sent via email to their phones telling them where they are going to be in the future for those who sign up. Also, a simple internet site I'm sure is on the horizon where a calendar can be had to show where they are going to be during the week and month.

All Star, and Opie, are not affiliated in any way, shape, or form with Opie's Cajun Cafe on Govt Street.

As far as getting the word out, please know that there will be a website with all the food truck info coming soon, and I can only speak for myself, but plan on advertising on here (just emailed chicken) and think the other trucks would chip in too to let you all know where we're gonna be daily.

Chicken, you have mail.

How does this work in BR? Are they going to wander or set up in specific locations on a set schedule? The food truck thing was new to me upon moving here, and I love them. There are some great ones in this area. They typically have set schedules and are at different areas of town each day of the week. There's a hawaiian taco truck by my office every Tuesday and a NOLA themed one with pretty good poboys every Monday. I'm happy to see BR making some positive strides

Some set up downtown every lunch day. Some are DT 2 days, and at local bars at night. Some are part time, some are full time. Most truck owners have other businesses, and would prefer to personally run the truck part time, as to hire half-arse help and put out a mediocre product full time.

We're working on a way to let everyone know where the trucks will be, it's just hard to find one way to get to everyone.

I don't know where he was headed with this comment either.

If by minimal he means biting into the profit of brick and morter bc of only being able to serve small numbers, it all depends on the size of the truck, speed, and how many are out that day.

As far as from a tax standpoint, it's adding thousands to the city's sales tax revenue each week. Is that a lot of cash for a city? Probably not. But, it's enough to cover things like Sunday in the park, live after 5, and jambalaya jam.

Simple, you go to a website and enter an email or phone number and you get a text/email every morning.

Food Trucks, if you are listening, the Bonne Carre is calling.

Take it up with MGMT there. The head guy is awesome and super nice, but the subway and other place next to it would die if they showed up outside serving food. As much as I'd like to say it's fair, it's not. Subway and the other place paid a ton of money to build out inside there, knowing they'd lock down and have exclusive food rights inside BC.

There's a cool place in Austin that trucks set up everyday. It's an empty lot with plenty of parking and picnic tables. Some of the best food I've had in Austin was here.

I wish BR could have a permanent set up like this. Check out some of the food photos.

I still say you need to find a way to get out the the BREC dog park/playground on Park or the about to reopen BREC park at Kennilworth/Perkins.

eta: There is also a new play/splash ground about to open in Prairievill at Hwy 42 and Old Jefferson.

Taco de Paco is by the overpass next to the haircut place every Monday for lunch. That's the only location that I know is regular for them, but I'm sure there are others.

I was thinking the same thing last night. When they organized it, I don't think they were ready for such a big crowd. It wasn't organized all that well, but I still enjoyed myself.

Yeah they definitely weren't ready for a big crowd. I stood in line for 30 min and moved maybe 5 steps forward. We ended up leaving and going somewhere else. I would have loved to tried it though.
