Ever assume you're going to love a particular dish, but then you don't?

I thought I would love bahn mi, but now that I'm eating one ... no. Nope. I guess I should have looked at pictures of deconstructed sandwiches, but this crunchy stuff in the meat. Vlarf. Don't love the pate and actually, the other meat is not to my liking. Maybe other places make better versions? This is from Do's (Asian) Deli on Johnston in Lafayette.

I bet you'd prefer the sandwich with a different protein.

I thought I should taste "traditional" first. But I was wrong.

You have a limited palate if u say sugar belongs in deserts. My advice: Try more food and try to expand your palate.

Unfortunately, that's one of the sorriest looking banh mis that I've ever seen. Too bad it was your first, sort of like a bad prom date. No jalapenos for instance?

Is Do's newer? I don't remember ever hearing of it.

Don't judge all bahn mi based off of that atrocity they served you. Looks awful.

Good ones look more like these

Agreed, and with bahn mi I've found different places can vary greatly. So find one with a style you like

Crab Cakes.
Had them in probably 30 places and liked one.

bahn mi,

The one you have looks terrible, but even the good ones are not particularly appealing to me. Not saying I wouldn't enjoy them, but not something I look forward to.

Yes, I think it's pretty new. Here's the website.

I was expecting some fresh, bold flavor. I did not get that. The sandwich was probably better looking before I took it apart for the pic. I'd also cut off a portion and eaten it. There was a bit of jalapeno somewhere.

Yes! Cheesecake. I love cheese and I love cake.

I've yet to find a cheesecake that's anything more than 'meh'.

And coleslaw. I like the ingredients and I love Mayo, but put them all together and, again, 'meh.'

Hmm. Maybe the paté was off. I thought something was funky, but that was before I knew there would be anything like that. And I usually like that kind of stuff.

And yes, Gris, it does look kind of grim.
