Dante's Kitchen/Blind Pelican?

Thoughts? Don't read much on here about either.
Looking for a nice patio and casual brunch spot in New Orleans. Shorts/T-shirt kind of deal. Think Chimes East/Covington.
Looking to get off my normal loop of Coquette, Surrey's, Elizabeth's, Appoline. Weather should be warming up so a nice patio sounds good.

Blind Pelican has a great happy hour for oysters but other than that...pass.
Haven't had Dante's brunch

I always enjoy Dante's dinner service. Have not made it that way for brunch, but I can't imagine it would be bad.

BP is a nice place to drink but they can have some real crappy oyster.

Never been to Dante's because I never felt like standing in the 1.5 + hour line. Perhaps it's changed and that's not the case anymore, but a few years ago if the weather was nice you were going to wait forever for a table during brunch. Similar to Surrey's. I'm sure for some people it's worth it, but when it comes to drinking or dining in Nola I don't wait in lines.
As Neauxla said Blind Pelican is a great spot for happy hour oysters and watching some sports. Other than that the food sucks.
For casual consider Twelve Mile Limit, Booty's, Horn's.

quote:Yeah...great spot for HH oysters and I rarely see it get mentioned on here. Might just do that the afternoon before and try out Dante's for brunch.

I wouldn't call Dante's a casual spot, the few times I've been there hasn't been anyone there wearing shorts/t-shirt.

I love Dante's for brunch! I have been several times, and never had anything I didn't like. The only problem is space.

I used to do Dante's brunch a few years back and I would say it is pretty casual, especially on the patio. Not sure about the lines now.

That's the only time I've been.

It's in the Bywater. I've only ever had it for lunch and found it mediocre but people say the brunch is really good. It's also reasonably priced and casual.
Somewhere in between casual and upscale would be Atchafalaya and if you haven't been there for brunch it's well worth a visit. I'm not a brunch fan but I like this place. Try and get reservations though and you might could also specifically ask for an outside table.

Dante's is casual for brunch. Good food and great value. It's cramped inside and parking sucks. They don't take reservations so I would advise to get there early or late to avoid the wait

I keep seeing it thrown out as a recommended brunch spot and I keep neglecting it due to their proud menu prices. $23 for shrimp n grits, $18 for pulled pork and eggs, $14 for eggs and black bean. Brunch margins are generally high, but damn . Maybe I'll change my mind after a visit.
Think I'm going to try out Dante's when they open to see if there is a line, if there is, I'll just head back across town to get me a surf n turf at Parkway on the patio.
Thanks for the help

Jeans are fine. I've seen many there in shorts. The food/price difference is the best around for brunch, imo. We enjoy it and go back when we're in town

Blind Pelican has very unique food. It's the only food I've ever had that had no taste. It didn't taste "bad," it just had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. It's truly remarkable, I have no idea how they achieved removing ALL flavor from the food.
that's hard to accomplish especially in this area of the country. Ive sat on the patio or at the bar and had some oysters and beer but never eaten anything else. Generally a nice atmosphere. I think I've ruled their brunch out...at any point.

I haven't gone for oysters because I'm generally skeptical of places offering them for that cheap in this day and ag
Well considering I've eaten thousands of oysters at restaurants and the only place I've gotten sick from is Luke, I can't subscribe to that...although it was HH. So maybe I can.
