Cheap and easy crock pot pork roast with pics

This couldn't be much simpler. Take some peeled and halved onions into a hot cast iron skillet with a touch of oil. Get some color on those, then drop in the carrots. Transfer to crock pot.

Next, season and brown the pork on all sides.

Add to crock pot. I tossed some garlic cloves in the oil for about fifteen seconds, then deglazed the pan with homemade chicken stock and into the pot it went along with a dash of soy and Worcestershire sauce.

A few snippets of rosemary and thyme from my garden, the lid goes on, and so does the crock pot to low for about 7-8 hours.

The smell it emits is worth the price of admission, but the end product will be money.

Cost: Under ten bucks for about three portions.

I'm on the edge of my seat as well.

That's the only problem with a slow cooker. It's so damned slow.

My favorite roast recipe. I didn't have the crock pot with me a while back and did beef roast in the oven.. Not nearly as yummy as a pork roast in the crock pot IMO.

I need a crock pot bad. I'd love a hot meal when I get home at 10-11pm every night.

+this

I'd go to WallyWorld - no sense buying higher cost than they have. Timer is nice, but WW has all you'd need. My fav. pot (have three, but I been doing this for 50 years probably cost 15 dollars and only features is high low and off knob. Crock doesn't even come out for cleaning. It is ancient and still cooks fine.

Oh I know, I just gotta get around to doing it. I never go to that part of the store so I never remember.

Pretty much just liquor and fresh food department.

Notice that the pork started out completely on top of the veggies and at finish is half submerged. There's no need to add a lot of liquid because the cooking process will provide it. That second pic might not be the prettiest plating in the world, but getting a bit of pork, onion and carrot in the same fork bite was incredible.

What cut of pork did you use for that? Just a roast or something else?

Poor timing, but it's Boston butt. When I was making it I had no idea about the sheet that was going down in Beantown while it was braising.

Irony runs deep.

I'll skip making a NY Strip tomorrow.
