Charlie's Steakhouse Uptown NOLA

Party of five guys went on Saturday night.
We tried to walk up to Pascal's Manale at 8:30 but they were booked until 10. So we walked down to Charlie's and were told we would wait an hour. So we sat in the bar and were seated in 45 min. Winner
We ordered a stack of onion shoestrings, they were awesome
Four of us ordered the wedge salad. Two of us had home made blue cheese and the other two had home made Italian. It was the best blue cheese dressing I have ever had
We ordered two 20 oz t-bones, two 24 oz t-bones and one 10oz filet. We ordered two sautéed mushrooms and two au gratin potatoes.
The steaks were fantastic, the potatoes were fantastic and the mushrooms were merely ok. The mushrooms didn't have much taste to be honest.
Here is the amazing part. The bill was $215!
Each of us had a $43 bill. Unbelievable. We each paid $50 and left happy as we could be.
I know there are some that don't care for the griddle method of cooking a steak but we were pleased. We commented that this was the closest to the old Dwight Strouds steak that we all used to love.

i haven't been since it reopened but I had heard it had dropped off.
I'll have to try it again.

You heard wrong. Much better than pre-K.
ETA: Their BC dressing is the third best in town.

Both dining rooms were packed. Wait staff was excellent. Hostess was very cordial and visited with us in the bar. Bartender was very friendly and made an excellent Old Fashioned
We had a great meal with a nice atmosphere for an unbelievable price
I highly recommend this restaurant

I hope so. I thought it was awful pre-K . . . except for the onion rings.

Glad you had fun. Are there better places in town for a steak? Yes, but Chalrie's has a good atmoshpere and really good value for the product.

It was pretty dirty and grimy. All aspects have been upgraded.

I'll give it a try. I may even invite Powerman so he can apologize for calling me a snob and ignorant.

charlie's is the tits.
when i was a youngin', my parents would take me there and I would get to play with those dirty arse toys they kept around.
their steak is great. onion strings are the best i've ever had. much better post-K, IMO. though I do miss the old waitress...anyone remember her name?

Miss Dotty, if I recall. We went there one night many years ago, she was our waitress on her 72nd birthday!
I used to love their "menu"...you want the big one, or the little one? Definitely had to get the au gratin potatoes.

That's a great tip...
If you are from central city.

Damn, way to express your appreciation with a great tip.

It's a 16%+ tip, its not that bad. I usually try to tip between 15-20% but thats only for 2 people. (If service is exceptional ill go higher than 20%.)
How much should they have tipped?

5 guys spending that much... I feel like each could have dropped a 10 at least.

I went to Charlies and thought it was pretty good........though seriously I think Mr. Johns has ruined me for any other steak house.

Reasonable expectation. They probably fell pray to the round number of $50 a piece rather than throwing in a few extra 1's. If they paid by credit then that theory is out the window.

Personally, I think the steaks at Charlie's are crap and the only thing good there is the onion strings.
