Pedro's cheese tostada was awesome after a long walk home from the Bengal or Shanahans.

Burger Tyme was the first thing I ate when I moved to Louisiana. That Cajun Blaze burger was quite a sign of things to come.

Back in the 80s and 90s I'd say it was one of the best restaurants in America.
Well I certainly enjoyed it but this just might be a bit of a stretch.
Yeah, while a it was arguably the best restaurant BR has ever had, let's slow our roll a bit here. It was definitely a sort of throwback style of "Contiinental" cuisine that you really don't see anymore, but that doesn't diminish that it was a really top notch place.
Shoneys Big Boy was where Hooters on College is now.

A few years ago I actually thought of opening a Big Boy on the corner of College/Perkins...

I used to go to the one at Wooddale and Florida next to Baums Bakery. It's now a Jack in the Box.
And someone pointed out above Sigmunds was the deli I was thinking of. Had kosher pickles in big wooden barrels. If I remember it was in the little strip on Govt with Western Auto and an S and H Green Stamp store.
I remember the old Pac A Sac stores, which later were sold and changed to 7-11 stores had fresh made BBQ beef sandwiches for $.25. Joe D's Grocery had great fried chicken po boys, pimento cheese sandwiches and on Friday the best egg salad sandwiches for twenty five cents in a wax paper bag.
Romano's Grocery on North Blvd had great plate lunches. Chris' Bar had great sandwiches and ice cold fish bowl beer. Carlino's Grocery on Tom Drive had great po boys that they heated in a press.
Piccadilly and Woolworth's counter in Bon Marche.
DH Holmes and downtown Godchaux's had great lunch counters as well.
And I still on occasion eat at Jays BBQ on Govt.

I was born in New Orleans and grew up in both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. I swear that I never saw a lunch counter at any DH Holmes in Baton Rouge or New Orleans. I'm 63 and I would go to DH Holmes on Canal Street and the DH Holmes at Delmont Village and Bon Marche. I remember the Walgreens in Delmont Village having a lunch counter along with Woolworths. But, for the life of me, I can't remember a DH Holmes having a lunch counter. I remember a cafeteria behind the Holmes on Canal Street. That cafeteria was like a Piccadilly. I think that the cafeteria was part of DH Holmes, but it was in a building across the street from Holmes.

Prytania on George Oneal. Great burgers and some of the best steak fries ever. Also the Chinese restaurant on Jefferson close to Parkview Baptist when they had the guy doing the Mongolian barbecue yelling out "bar-b-q number two, pick up please" and getting louder and louder if you didn't pick up your plate quickly.

Yep, that's how Bamboo House on Boardwalk used to be in the early/mid 90s.
"Numba five, pick up prease. Numba five"

After Rubys closed off College it was another restaurant that didn't last long and then Phil's Oyster Bar closed on Govt and moved there. They didn't last long either.
Cippriani's was after Ruby's owned by Don & Meg Gerald and was open for 4-5 years & was very very good!! Longtime advertiser in The Heart of Baton Rouge Magazine which I was involved in the start of.
Bernard's Chicken Loaf was either on North St or North Blvd & Herman Perrodin had Didee's down in that area as well.
