Hey, 15 years ago, Picadilly was pretty good. They used to have some of the best crawfish etouffee one could get from a restaurant

Aren't you like 20 years old?

As well as the guy longing for the days of Mr. Gatti's, LPK and fricking Panchos?!

Here's last week's thread on Piccadilly in BR.

I forgot about the Gov't St location with the piano player. I don't know if I've ever been there. Might drop in for lunch sometime to hear him.

You could always count on good BS from Trey and smart one liners from Papa Bargas, all while Mimi led the cooking troops in the kitchen.

I'll second this. Went to high school with Trey (we called him "Gordo" then").

I weighed 90 lbs and could destroy a Big Bertha.

23, and yes. That etouffee was amazing before they changed the recipe. My grandma lived near the Old Broadmore so we went there regularly.

Gatti's was an LSU fixture. I was mad because it closed right before I started classes there. It was a cheap place to grab a lot of food that was conveniently located right near why I was going to be living for the following 4 years. Losing that was a bit of a bummer.

LPK was good, damn good. I don't know what kind of snobby universe you live in, but they made some seriously good pizza. It was one of my SO's favorite places.

Panchos is more nostalgia for that whole Broadmore Theater shopping center than anything else. When my brothers and I were staying at my grandparents' house, we would ride our bikes over to panchos to get those fried things with the honey in them. We would frequent the bookstore to buy comic books, catch matinees at the movie theater, and visit the used video game store to find games for our SEGA Genesis.

I went to the one on Essen a couple summers ago for lunch and it's such a shell of its former self. There's no flavor to any of the dishes anymore, just salt. Picadilly used to be a solid place to get a home-cooked meal for fairly cheap. Now, it's just another mediocre chain for old people.

So as an 8 year old you had that discerning of a palate? Props.

I don't need a lesson. I was @ LSU from 01-05 and ate there at least 6 dozen times. Agreed it was a great spot for a bunch of college kids to hang and stuff themselves with decent pizza for cheap. Missing it is about nostalgia, not a blow to the culinary landscape of the city.

There's one here in Nola. I've been twice. It's nothing special. Check out one of the many best New Orleans pizza threads .. it is never mentioned.

I understand the sentimentality. There are places in my hometown I feel the same about. But I don't know why anyone would currently wish for a Panchos to be around. Their food was dogshit.

btw, the "fried things with the honey in them" is called a sopapilla. El Chico's and Posadas in Shreveport used to have some pretty good ones. Like you.. it's a childhood memory of mine.

Yes, but I don't live in New Orleans. Losing LPK is a blow to the culinary scene of Baton Rouge, not New Orleans. New Orleans has Ancyra (or however it's spelled) and the new shop set up by the Wood Burning Pizza Oven food truck guy who abandoned BR last year. BR has the Pastime :yak:, Johnney's :yak:, Mamma Della's (haven't tried), and Fleur de lis (delicious, but a completely different kind of restaurant from LPK).

I miss it because it was good, convenient, and unique for the market.

I'm sure there are other places around town that service bbq chicken pizzas.

Ancora is the spelling. The latter is Dolce Vita and it's damn good, I agree. Had a brisket and whiskey glazed peach pizza from there Sunday.

Red Zeppelin, Johnny's and Fleur de lis are all solid pizza joints.

I'd consider Mama Dellas to be the cream of that crop. Whole Foods has a pretty decent pizza, too.
