Red gravy is excellent

The pasta is homemade and fresh. The produce is all seasonal and specialty items hand selected.

It is very good. Ate at Tana last Thursday night and I can't get the charred octopus dish out of my head. Best dish I have had in a very long time. Ate with 3 other people and we all had separate dishes. It was all great.

It is from Michael Gulotta who runs MoPho and was chef de cuisine at August. Plus, they have great drinks.

I like Impastato's but it is in Metairie.

I made the mistake of recommending Andrea's last week and got ripped for it, but they have a 31st anniversary special going on right now. Three courses and a glass of wine from Andrea's vineyard in Capri for $31.00. We had it last weekend and enjoyed it very much.

The OP asked for downtown or uptown.
Sorry you got ripped, but 99% of the people on this board kind of think Andrea's is horrible.

If you go to Liuzza's, you need cash. No credit cards.

Heard on Fitzmorris's show earlier this week that Liuzza's on Bienville takes cards now.

Definitely not your standard red gravy Italian place but I thought AVO was great.

Glad to hear this. I haven't been yet, but the initial reports I heard were less then stellar.

I want to give them a shot. I love that space.

Vincent's on St. Charles
Macello's
Irene's

Any of these three will be exactly what you want.

I'm jealous, enjoy

My review of Irene's in the thread below. Mixed bag. I'd avoid the fish dishes and I thought the infamous meatball was boring. Other items were quite good.

Gino's in BR.

For old school red gravy style, nothing else in New Orleans really comes close.

I like Mariza in the Bywater for more new school.

Very good, have not been in sometime. I'm having a tough time on deciding where I will be having lunch on Saturday. Kin, Tana or Toup's. What a terrible decision that is going to be.

I like Irene's and her ex husband Tommy's. Domenica as well.

Go across the Huey P to Moscas. Get spaghetti and meatballs or the roasted chicken. Uptown LaPalco. I'm not a fan of oysters mosca.

I'll agree with Gris about the fish at Irene's.

Nothing special.

I sure miss Mr Joe and 1179....loved that place.

Slight thread jack.....Anyone remember the name of the Italian place on Metairie (or old Metairie) Road? Just tried to Yelp it and maybe they are out of business? They were around for years.
