The two year old used to always try and open the door for me, it was kinda funny. Heard there was some drama with her ex a while back (something about him and a gun) but evidently they're decent-ish now.

I actually like the food at La Carreta's. Their salsa has the right balance of cilantro and lemon, and I love the carnitas there.

I loved the carnitas at La Carreta 10 years ago. Last couple of years, I'd order them and would always get them dried out.

Not a chance. Different menu, different crowd, different atmosphere and much better food. It is more expensive, but IMO the couple extra bucks is worth it.

Are there any good Mexican place arounf NOLA/Baton Rouge that serve real Carne Asada burritos/tacos?? Not the stuff La Carretas calls Carne Asada. Love a big carne burrito with guac!!!

Glad someone started this thread, being from the San Antonio area I really miss my texmex. Los gallos on siegan was pretty good, but it's now some gay arse place called niche. Everywhere else i've been in baton rouge the salsa tastes like arse.

El Rio Grande is doing homemade salsa. Has the best guacamole anywhere. Tex-mex done right.
i have to assume i went on an off night. it's been about 9 months ago. it was like a joke, when i tasted that pace pacante and old el paso refried beans out of a can. they had this cheap, watery cheese sauce they spooned over our enchiladas. it was very bad. I swore i'd never return.
agree about la fondas. another bad one.
fwiw, i never thought BR had good mexican overall. a city with great food, no doubt. just no mexican. of course I grew up on the rural texas/oklahoma boarder. we got nothing but authentic mexican.

Coyote Blues over Mestizos? don't get that. Coyote Blues seems overpriced, although they did have good portions. seemed like a glorified El Chicos, IMO.
isn't it funny how people's perspectives differ on resturaunts?

The family still owns La Tiendita down the street.
The original game plan was to move Los Gallos to a new building that they were going to buy, instead of lease. The food was good, but the service went downhill due to a death in their family.

superior grill.
Look up the reviews on that place.
People only write glowing reviews of Superior for the drinks and the people watching experience. In that respect, it's a legit place, but virtually no one writes positive reviews about the food.
The manager Salvadoran, you're more likely to see him eating at La Reyna than at his own restaurant.

Afreaux,
Have you tried El Paste Dorado? It's on Florida, 1 block off of Ardenwood, next door to the Catholic Arts and Gifts store.
Been a few times, and i love it. Been to Tacos y Burritos Express, La Tiendita, Montanas, and a few others, but thats my favorite joint.
Salsa is fresh, and the Sopes are great.

The red pork tacos there are good.

Boy, I used to love the salsa at El Chicos. I would buy a big container of it to go every time I went. I went to an El Chicos a few years ago in some other state just to taste that salsa again and it was totally different.
