I’d guess Seaworthy, Sidecar, 5’s Bar, Pigeon and Whale.

Compared to gulf oysters? They’re very different. Oysters from New England tend to be smaller, less gritty, brighter, and more delicate. They are better than gulf oysters raw IMO, but gulf oysters are far and away the best for fried and chargrilled.

Search the term merroir.

Similar to the term terroir for wine, but related to the sea instead of the land.

Been wanting to try out Fives in the quarter. Heard good reviews from a few folks who live down there.

Why would anyone choose east coast oysters over gulf coast? If you don’t like gulf coast oysters best you ain’t eating at the right spots. IMO

I prefer having a nice big plump salty oyster. I’ve had raw oysters uo and down east and west coast and Canadian maritimes. When I bring oyster lovers from these areas to LA and go to the places that are iconic for LA oysters in south LA they can’t believe how much better we have it. A dozen is a meal. A dozen elsewhere is a snack.

Just blows my mind that they are really charging $5 AN OYSTER for Gulf oysters.

No way. We here in SW LA are getting great oysters for $20 or less per dozen, raw. Less if you buy them by the bag and shuck them yourself. But we also are getting 16-20 count shrimp heads on from boat for less than $4.25 a pound.

Probably farmed oysters grown off the bottom.

Same here. Restaurant markup is huge.Im speaking of farm raised oysters on the Gulf Coast. Most restaurants are buying these oysters between .85 cents to $1 per oyster locally. Farmers are selling at .35 cents to .60 cents per oyster. Your average wholesaler chargers .22 cents to wash, box and ship. Some wholesalers do sell to another supplier then sold again which can increase cost.

That’s insanely high, most of the fall we’ve been getting them for less than $3/lb.

I've had New England oysters and they were much saltier than gulf oysters, which was a bit surprising to me. I enjoyed them a lot.

because they taste a lot better. I like gulf coast oysters, but in raw format, they dont compare.
