It's going to be called Johnny Sanchez. It's opening in the CBD (Old Ste. Marie). Not sure exactly when it's opening, but suppose to be this fall.

Let's open one up in that empty space on Magazine across from the 'Vous. I've got a few hundred dollars.

Na brah, would have to be in a sketchy location.

Side note, have you noticed all the available spots for rent along Magazine ? Has rent prices gotten too high?

Well, they seem to higher than they've ever been. I think a lot of those buildings are already paid for or the owners have enough $ to let them stay vacant until they get the price they want. Actually, I'm only aware of one or two spaces that have been vacant for any length of time. One of those is between the RH and GG's.

Anecdotal but say 18 months ago a friend of mine who does commercial real estate for large clothing companies and restaurants was always in New Orleans looking at spots along Magazine for his national clients. Haven't seen hide nor hair of him in about 8 months.

All the places he was shopping for decided not to come into New Orleans market.

It's possible property owners got a little too greedy and demanding.

ETA: Although CVS and Walgreen's don't seem to mind. There'll be one on every corner eventually.

Just off top my head, Popeyes, the Scooter shop has been vacant since the first if the year but finally looks like someone is moving in, the place on the corner of Constantinople has been vacant a long time, The address that was the Occasional Wife has been vacant, the lil art gallery next to Baie Rouge is now empty, and this is just the stretch between Nap and LA. I'm sure I could come up with a few more just walking down the street.

That is likely. Also, there just isnt a sufficient labor force in the city to run as many restaurants as we have. Read here: anyone lurking and getting ready to apply to law school, go become a waiter, bartender, or cook instead.

Higher rents are a barrier to our market.

Those places live or die on margins and higher rents eat them up.

Well two of them he was representing did open on Magazine. I was more speaking about the restaurants/food purveyors he was repping all of whom seemed to pick up and look elsewhere.
