If I could I would, sadly when we went to court we had to settle on a list of stipulations, one being no serving hot dogs on a hamburger buns anymore. some other examples would be we can't use the word "Broiled", can't have the same number sandwich coincide with their numbered sandwiches (why our menu looks slightly different). bunch of other miscellaneous crap. i was in a situation where i had no choice but to leave and take my chances on my own. i appreciate the support and i think over time people will realize that quality and service beats a familiar name everytime. any ideas on how to get people's attention are welcomed. check us out on instagram and twitter @bensburgersnola

Quote from website deleted per Ben's request.

Was this mainly over video poker?

Also, do you plan on accepting credit cards? The cash only is pretty outdated.

You don't sign any kind of nda or gag did you?

Because if you did, this is a bad idea.

Not being a dick here, but Reading that you would rather the customer pay an ATM fee rather then the business pay the CC feedoesn't make me ever want to eat there again tbh.

What is the ATM fee by the way?

Look into square or ncg POS systems. They have really fair cc fees for business owners imo. And their pos systems are top notch

To answer your other question. We have looked into accepting credit cards (believe me this is our biggest complaint) BUT the bad outweighs the good in our situation. I have been taking inventory of the amount of people who use our ATM (which we own and collect the fee) who use it to buy food and those who use it for video poker. If more people used it for VP than when we started accepting credit cards for food our revenue wouldn't change much on the ATM. But thats not the case, more people use it to buy food so if we started accepting credit cards we would lose ATM revenue and start paying credit card fees. We may have more sales with credit cards overall but the bottom line wouldn't change or would decrease. Sorry as much as I know it seems outdated and inconvenient it's hard for me to say no to that. It's been that way for 16 years so it's hard to break up a good thing like that. One day I'm sure I will have to but now is not the right time to mess with it.

I don't know anything about your gross sales or profit margins or what you need to make your numbers work, so I'm not going to tell you what to do here.

I do know that as a millennial, I very rarely carry cash on me. Most everyone I know doesn't carry cash on a regular basis unless they specifically need it for something. When choosing a place to eat, a restaurant such as yours would be overlooked more often than not for not accepting cards. I would imagine your business would pick up tremendously by just accepting cards.

Again, I haven't seen your numbers, but I would seriously consider how many more burger combos you would need to sell to cover your ATM loss and CC fees. I think you might be surprised by how many more customers you would see.

Thanks for clarifying some questions and posting on this board. You seem like a good guy trying his best, and I'll give you my business the next time I'm in the area

A few weeks ago I stopped for lunch, saw sign "cash only", checked my wallet and only had $2. Went to Quick Check on the corner of the building, they except plastic. I don't pay ATM fees.

And Quick Check has some pretty good food.

Interesting to hear what the court decided you couldn't keep. The menu #s, the hot dog on bun, and the "broiled/broiler".

Sauce recipes were all good?

Thanks I appreciate the input, with the overhaul of the business, the litigation, and my first child born all within 4 months of each other I've had a lot on my plate. I just want people to understand that I am doing what's best for my family, my employees, and their families. Some of my employees have been with me since day 1 16 years ago. We really do care about what we put out there everyday. I'm glad I found this thread and I'm thankful for the person who started it. I remember seeing it last year but didn't know how to respond at first. There were plenty of rumors going around of people speculating what happened and this is the only one that was pretty much spot on. Don't mean to get all sappy but it's encouraging to see people understand what we've been dealing with. Glad I could get some things off my chest. And a word of advice. Keep a $20 on you at all times lol

This.

How much is the credit card fee per transaction?

I'd honestly rather you just charge me a CC fee than make me walk to the atm and then ahevgo carry that change and shite around with me.

2.50 wich is standard and split with a processing company so we don't see all of that. Like I said I will crunch some numbers and see what our prices would look like to cover the new expenses and loss of ATM revenue. If I can justify raising the prices and not overcharging then I'm game for credit cards. I've seen elsewhere that newly accepted credit cards offer like a 10% discount for using cash so the CC fees can still be avoided by the customer. May try that to help keep prices in check.

Funny, I was talking with someone yesterday morning whose office was recently relocated to the Causeway/Vets. area and we were discussing lunchtime options within walking distance of their office(my office was just a couple of blocks away). The Bud's Broiler on Causeway right off Vets. was mentioned. I asked how they liked it and they said it wasn't terrible but that they put too much salt on the burger. The ate it but were close to tossing it and they like salt. Does Ben's add salt or a seasoning to the meat patty before or during grilling?
So having read this thread I told them about the Ben's on Clearview. Not sure if it's anyone(franchise wise) related to the issues Ben had but I know when my office was near the Causeway Bud's I would occasionally stop in there to grab something to go and those burgers seemed like they would get thinner every other visit there. Anyway, the person I was talking to said next time they want a Bud's/Ben's type burger they would head over toward Clearview.

To show support from the forum here Ben should have a day a TDF&D Day(or week may work better). Maybe have a special coupon like printout for the customer to present. Not looking for anything free just trying to show a forum member that we back and support him.

Good luck Ben! I hope to get by there sometime soon.
