I've been hearing rumblings that BBQ food is slowly getting to be a more national foodie scene. This includes more BBQ styled places opening up in NYC and other 'hip' towns.

Anyone heard about this as well?

Supposedly BBQ restaurants are multiplying and its still a bit under the radar.

LINK

The article cites strong BBQ restaurants in Boston , Chicago, and I've personally heard of good places in Syracuse and NYC.

I thought this was the case about 7-8 years ago?

Never heard about it then.
And after travelling the DC-Philly corridor a lot I haven't found much evidence that the food style is spreading.

Place called Freddy's BBQ joint in DC that's great. They'll open any time of the day and have been known to cater white house functions.

you can even catch some famous politicians there. I heard they were talking about franchising but there were some character issues

Did you get molested by someone in Chicago?

You have a truly irrational hatred of the city, and you're a terrible alter to boot.

talk about a few years too late

Shreveport has croughnuts, and if Shreveport has croughnuts, then I would assume that the fad would have already been dead and gone everywhere else

Blue Smoke in NYC, Dinosaur BBQ, and a bunch of others have been around almost 20 years. Big Apple BBQ is probably the largest bbq festival in the country.

BBQ has always been around and hot, just sometimes more than the regulars take a look at it.

In all honesty, it is probably more an outgrowth of the return to traditional cooking techniques (pickling, charcuterie, smoking, etc...).

Was in line there at 7:50 Sunday morning for my first time. I came away impressed but not overly so. I think if I ever went back I would get the lean brisket only. I can't eat fatty cuts of meat anymore like I used to

Well at least you acknowledge that and aren't here complaining their brisket has too much fat.

I would tell you about the latest food trend, but you've probably never heard of it before.
