Wash
Rub with olive oil
Sprinkle with kosher salt
Wrap in foil
Bake at 425 for 45 minutes.
If I want a quick meal I buy the ones already wrapped in the produce section and microwave for 6 1/2 minutes.

Wrap in foil
Just put directly on the oven grates, the skin is the best part.

No foil as I like the skin crispy. I turn the oven on, poke with a fork, and to save time, usually microwave them for 2 minutes per potato while the oven preheats. The potatoes still taste great, but it saves a bit of time. Usually about 30 minutes at 400 does the trick. Weird thing is that whenever my wife bakes the potatoes (which isn't often, thankfully) they explode in the oven. She says she pokes them with a fork, but I've never ever had it happen.

It prevents the dreaded crumbly texture you can get sometimes.
That crumbly texture is what you strive for with a baked potato.

for how long?
Until they're no longer hard, 30-45 minutes depending on potato size. Using a pot holder, squeeze the potato until you can feel it cave in.

I've never wrapped em in anything so I'm on your side on this one.
This is wild to me. I have NEVER heard of people not wrapping their potatoes. Lol.
I out Oil and Salt on mine and wrap them. Will have to try the unwrapped version next time.

What the guy said above is what I do
Unwrapped for an hour at 400, cut the heat and wrap them and let them sit wrapped in oven while you prepare everything else
Usually ends up being 10-15 minutes and they come out perfect

I've been cooking for 45+ years and I have NEVER had a potato explode in the oven and don't prick them or wrap them. Neither did my Mom.

Wash potato, let dry. Rub well with bacon drippings and sprinkle with Kosher salt bake at 375 until done. Sometimes I do them on the grill this way.
Delicious!

I microwave until about 1/2 done then rub butter/ olive oil/etc & then Tony C's or Montreal steak seasoning and put unwrapped on grill. The crispy skin is about my favorite part.
