I was able to trade some local products for some Heady recently... not hard if you find someone from that area.

Getting Heady was easy when all someone had to do was drive to the brewery on Monday-Wednesday and pick up a couple cases a person. Back then people would trade $4$ for shelf beer that wasn't distributed in the area.
Now that people have to wait in line at one of a handful of stores it's become a little more difficult, but not impossible if you have the right beer to trade (GitM, Cantillon, 3F are all available locally and trade well)
Hopefully things will go back to the good old days when the Alchemist opens their new brewery and has a retail space for purchasing their beers directly.

I've found people willing to do a $4$ trade on Heady, it just has to be someone who gets it regulary. Same with 3F, Pliny, etc... I've traded for all.doing random shelf beers found in BR. Some (ICS) these people have thoroughly enjoyed.

For local stuff, be chatty and friendly with people that work at your favorite beer store(s), or the owner. If I really want something, I'll ask them to save me one. Since I'm a regular customer, they will come through for me more often than not.
