I’m going to be in Ville Platte all day Saturday for a wedding that night with nothing to do while my wife does wedding day festivities so I decided to do my own boudin tasting/tour with one of the other husbands. We’ve got no problem driving anywhere around there and will definitely make it to Scott for the staples.

Let’s hear your recommendations for places that we have to try in and around Ville Platte, Opelousas, Lafayette, Scott, or anywhere nearby that’s worth checking out.

So far, I’ve got

B&S in Ville Platte

Not Boudin but do not leave VP without Teet's smoked sausage

Great, thanks. I’m definitely bringing an ice chest to stock my freezer with all kinds of meaty goodness

Ville Platte Area:
Boudin: T-Boys on Hwy 104 near Mamou; about 12 miles out of VP.

Smoked Sausage/Meats & Specialty Meats: Paul's Meat Market on Chataignier road (Hwy 29)-this is actually on the way to T-Boy's, you can catch Hwy 104 about a mile from the store. Their smoked sausage, smoked ponce, stuffed deboned fryers, & Tasso roasts are the best to be found anywhere.

Other options: B&S, Teets, Shops Grocery-these all have boudin & smoked sausage/meats & specialty meats also.

T-Boy's is in Mamou.

In Ville Platte, on the way out to Chicot, you can stop at Shop's on the corner of Lincoln Road and Chicot Park Road, their boudin is very good. Better than B&S.

If you head out to T-Boy's in Mamou, stop on the way, at Paul's Meat Market on the Chataignier Hwy. Their cracklins are the best in the area. T-Boy's ponces are also very good.

And like somebody said before, don't miss Teet's smoked sausage in Ville Platte.

But honestly, if you're not venturing out and want to stay close to Chicot Park, Shop's, B&S, Paul's Meat Market and Teet's are all you need.

If you want to make an hour drive to Lafayette, the Boudin Cookoff is in downtown Lafayette.. T-Boy will probably be there along with some of the best boudin and sausage makers in the area.

If you're sticking around Ville Platte and Mamou, in Point Blue on the road to Mamou and T-Boys (at 3579 Chatagnier Highway) is Point Blue Barbeque Stand. Try some of their smoked barbeque, (they have brisket, sausage, pulled pork, Boston butt, chicken, etc) with dirty rice and fresh home made bread. It's to-go only and you'll want to pick up a couple of plate lunches.
