United States Postal Service mail trucks out on Sundays?

Have seen three trucks so far today. What are they doing out on a Sunday?

They are doing Sunday delivery for Amazon prime.

I'm pretty sure that only delivery services stop on Sunday. Having one dude drive a semi full of mail from office to office is nowhere near the cost to pay the mailmen to actually deliver all that crap door to door. Mail processing and transportation run 24/7.

Yes these are not semi trailers, they are the regular home delivery mail trucks. Amazon prime delivery makes sense. The USPS mailmen were not wearing their usual uniforms either, just street clothes.

It's Amazon delivery. Amazon contracted with the USPS to deliver on Sundays. My last few Amazon deliveries were on a Sunday.

How much does that cost? I've never seen that option on the Prime items I order, but I guess it's just the timing of my orders. I see saturday options pretty often, and it's usually $9 or so.

mail moves on Sundays, it isn't delivered.
