I have played around with the 16:8 method of IF and even successfully completed a 3 day program. I never combined fasting with weights because I always thought it was taboo based off of the last 15 years of exercise philosophy and publications. Now my readings increasingly lead me to believe that intermittent fasting and exercise is not only possible, but very good for you. And sustainable for the long term. It’s the way our bodies, physiologically, are supposed to function.

I would like to hear from others that have practiced IF and get advice if you have any from your experiences. Any long time IF’ers on here?

In the past month, I just started a form of it that Joe Rogan suggested, which is to stop eating at 8 pm and don't eat again until 10 am.

While it's a couple hours short of the 16, it's been working pretty well and I'm a fan of it.

I work out at 7:30 am, so by the time I'm done that and into the work day at 10 am, I'm starving.

It's probably the easiest to stay on track with since I don't want to eat late at night anyway.

I dabbled in it a little this year. Then I changed to a high protein diet and I just couldn’t cram all that protein down in a small window. I feel like it works because you eat less not because of meal timing in and of itself.

Long term IFer, what do want to know? I would suggest reading lean gains. Also here is a link for some other programs and resources on IF.

Btw if lifting I suggest 16:8 following a 3 or 4 day a week lifting program that focuses on the big lifts. I would suggest the greyskull lp to start with.

I’m a huge fan of Cory Gregory’s Anabolic Fasting which takes the anabolic diet by dr Pasquale, tweaks it a bit and combines it with intermittent fasting.

Been doing this for about 2 months now and I’ve dropped 5lbs and vastly increased my strength and recovery.

I am one these resolutions people that finally stuck with it. I have been doing IF since January last year. I do 16:8 and break fast at noon. So I eat noon to 8pm. I also coincide my workout to break my fast post workout. So work out, break fast, eat to 8pm. My diet is Keto like but not hardcore. I still work in limited sugar and carbs. I am down 70 pounds exactly over the past year. From 290 to 220. Good luck brother!

I've been doing it for a couple of years but not a set schedule. Basically, I skip breakfast about once/week (16 hr fast) and also do a 24 hr fast 1-2 times per month.

I usually feel more energetic and less clogged in my arteries (maybe just mental?).

I lift weights and exercise often but usually not on the days that I go with the longer fasts.

Jay Campbell’s Metabolic Blowtorch Diet is better for me than Leangains or Warrior. Eat carbs around workout and IF on rest days. If you’re really fat then IMO you need the smaller meals bodybuilder type diet, for nothing more than to train yourself and your belly to ingest smaller portions. If you are fat then consuming your caloric requirement in just a few meals can be a recipe for disaster.

Is MCT oil or bulletproof coffee in the morning considered breaking your fast?

I workout in the mornings and recently (past two weeks) started a 16:8 IF, skipping breakfast. I wasn't sure about it at first because I've always heard how important the post-workout meal is, but it has been great so far. I feel good, my workouts are just as good, if not better, and I don't get as hungry during the day as I did when I ate breakfast. I had never considered it until it came up in a thread on the Poli board - I read about it and decided to give it a try. I drink lots of water and green tea and that keeps me satisfied until it's time to eat.

Been doing OMAD for about two months roughly 5 days/week. Lost about 25# pure fat so far.

I find it very easy.

I've been doing it about six months. It's really easy actually once your body gets used to it.

I don't eat until 2:00 PM daily and really don't even think about food until 1.

I feel fantastic.

The one down side is it's obviously harder to put on mass because I'm not eating as much.

'Self-Eating Cell' Research Wins Nobel in Medicine

Autophagy is a natural process by which the body degrades and recycles damaged cells, proteins and toxins.

This is the body’s way of cleaning house. It happens during starvation, calorie restriction and fasting. If the body fails to engage in autophagy, damaged cells and structures can accumulate dangerously. Autophagy is one method that the body uses to naturally neutralize cancer cells and degrade cells infected by harmful bacteria and viruses.

I tried to fast. I didn’t like it at all. I workout early in the a.m. and go to work immediately after. I can’t focus when I do that. I have to eat a small meal after I lift or I won’t be worth a damn at work.

I'm starting the 16/8 method to see how it improves my energy and overall wellness. I have questions about calories during the fasting window. Can I have green powder and BCAA's during the fasting period? Is there a benchmark for calories that is considered breaking the fast? Thanks.

I'm in the middle of reading The Complete Guide to fasting by Dr. Jason Fung. Tons of good info in there about the positive effects of fasting on the body.

I just completed my first week of IF. I’ve been wanting to try it for a while but as most have said I didn’t think I could. I love breakfast and am hungry in the morning but it’s not been as bad as I thought. Just drink some coffee or tea. I usually workout 4-5x/week and so far I’ve found my workouts to be as good if not better.
