Didn't know his was the first production one sold. Thought there were a few out there.
I only got that from the video someone posted. Probably first sold of this years model.

The company lost 2 employees testing this plan out in May of this year. This plane by Roy was the first sold and now it crashed. ICON will probably be going out of business soon.
FWIW, NTSB determined the crash that killed the 2 employees was a result of pilot error.

The report on that plane crash involving the employees:
It seems like this is an issue with them promoting it as a low altitude/thrill seeking plane, when that's just incredibly risky.

The National Transportation Safety Board determined that the cause was "the pilot's failure to maintain clearance from terrain while maneuvering at a low altitude." The board found no fault with the aircraft

It almost assuredly has to be Roy, and I really hope it is not because he was incredible. One of the best pitchers I have watched.
Regardless of who it is, it really sucks that someone died from this.

If Roy wasn’t on board, don’t you think he would have come out and said something by now on social media maybe?
Yeah this doesn't look good at all.

Only thing I could think of is if it was a family member and that tweeting out his well-being might not be top priority.

I'm hoping it's not his kid.

Wow
In the crash with the employees, I'm sure it could have been a mechanical failure with the plane. But I would withhold judgement on this situation. Given that he apparently liked to fly it fast and just above the waves leads me to believe this could be pilot error. At high speed if a wave caught the nose of that thing, the cartwheel that resulted likely would not have been great.

This is a great picture showing you how they advertise this plane.

Looks similar to the experimental plane John Denver bought and died in after just two flights.

Another interesting thing about this plane is its classification. It is called a light sport aircraft which doesn't have the more rigorous training needed for a normal pilot license. You are restricted, but it is meant to get people in the air faster with less training.
