To be fair, based on how the plane is marketed, I'm not sure if anyone really flies it responsibly. It's like being a responsible Donzi boat owner. Those people don't usually exist.

Yeah...it's sold as a sport plane (I didn't know those existed until now) - and he talks about flying it like a fighter jet.

Apparently if you're buying this plane, you are buying it for the purpose he was flying it.

It's like buying a Ninja motorcycle and just cruisin' as if you were in a Harley. Not gonna happen...you bought a Ninja for a reason.

The death rate for supersport bikes compared to cruiser bikes is 22.6 % while cruiser bikes are about 5%.

"Supersport bikes made up less than 10 percent of registered motorcycles in 2005 but accounted for over 25 percent of rider deaths."

It appears this plane was designed and marketed as a supersport plane - if there ever was one. It's not going from point A to point B - it's doing aerial tricks.

i dont think anyone is piling on him. its still a terrible tragedy for his family and the baseball world. is someone dying in a car crash any less tragic if they are speeding?

Pointing out he killed himself being kinda reckless isn't piling on him, it's a statement of fact.

Some people enjoy risk taking and thrill seeking. It sometimes bites them. Doesn't make him a bad person.

Horrible accidents like this have been happening way too much the last few years. Every time I read or hear about one I hope there was some misinformation or something. I wish those involved would use better judgement, but it was their decision and ultimately knew the risks.

They market this as a sport plane. It funny just last week they doubled the price of the plane to $379K. That is crazy considering you can get a used Cirrus SR22 for around that price plus many other capable plane. The exact niche thing this plane is designed to do (land in water) is what got him killed. Inexperienced sport pilots have no business trying to land on water. Landing on land is hard enough for some of those guys. There are so many things that can go wrong with water landings.

He didnt injure anyone else so there is no need to pile on him.

However, when one is the cause of their own death, it is natural for people to not feel as sorry for them as if they died of cancer or something else out of their hands.

I feel more sympathy for the wife and kids, and sometimes almost feel anger towards people who do these things when they have a family

Doesn't seem like he was trying to land. He was hotdoggin' at a low altitude and probably got a little bit lower than he intended.
