Something else?
Internet porn coupled with the death of childhood.
Remember when a 13 year old kid wore stupid clothes and watched cartoons and didn't know shite about the real world?
Well now 13 yr old girls dress like street hookers and 13 yr old boys have watched donkeys fricking women and bukkake videos before their balls have dropped.
Couple that with the glorification of sex and a promiscuous lifestyle everywhere from Hollywood to the frickin Disney Channel and you end up with what we have now: a generation of people who were never really kids, grew up to fast, and never think about the consequences of their actions. It's pervading every aspect of life from marriage to job searches.
We are so off the rails it's somehow wrong to reach kids morals and responsibility.

this has been discussed here before but they bring up teen mom and the correlation with the drop in teen moms
quote:
EARNEY: The dramatic fall in teen childbearing has been nothing short of spectacular. There are definitely policies and interventions that move the needle a little bit. But the bulk of that reduction really seems to be driven by universal factors, not just access to better contraception, but also — I’ll use economist-speak here — a reduced demand among young women to become teen mothers. We could think about that as a social or cultural win, but people are trying to figure out what made teenagers do this. My colleague Phil Levine and I wrote a paper a few years ago where we looked at the effect of the MTV reality program “16 and Pregnant.” A clip from 16 and pregnant: For most American teens, high school is about having fun. But for these six girls, high school will not be the same. KEARNEY: And what we did was we looked at Nielsen television ratings data. In places where more teenagers were watching MTV, when this show came on the air, you saw those places experienced a larger relative decline in teen childbearing. The places where more kids were watching MTV, this experiment comes on. You could think of it that way. All of a sudden, now they’re watching a show that makes teen motherhood look really hard. You see fewer teen births in that place nine months after the show came on the air. Teen childbearing has been falling steadily at like 2.5 percent a year. Then around the time that that show came on the air you saw a large drop in the sense that it declined 7.5 percent and has stayed at that rate.

yeah teen pregnancies are going down
and before anyone says the A-word, so are abortions

all races, except asians, are seeing these rates explode
As someone already mentioned, the real "problem" is married couples having fewer children. The birthrate for unmarried women is largely unchanged from 1990, but the percentage of children being born to unwed mothers has climbed nonetheless, as married women are simply having fewer children.

If you are already struggling financially, why would you bring another life into that?
Because of Government handouts and additional subsidies.

Freaking 72%.
Let that sink in.
A number you may very well see with whites in the next 30ish years too.
We're not immune from the compounding problem it represents, we just didn't get the same head start.

i'm listening to the podcast and holy shite. the "marriagable man" theory got skewered
i was kind of a believer in this theory, too
that just puts it further and further on class/values

Those issues are brought on at an individual level. Like I said before, it is extremely selfish, reckless and totally irresponsible to bring children into unstable situations. If you are already struggling financially, why would you bring another life into that?
If you are already struggling financially, you probably aren't making the best decisions in the first place. This shite is a compounding problem.
Also, once you're on government assistance, there is little motivation to pull yourself out of it. There is essentially a wide gap where you're better off not working than going to work and making something. The phaseouts on assistance don't work, but I'm not sure how you fix it either.

The social (not socioeconomic) class gap continues to widen.

The amount of young white single mothers I saw on bumble and tinder was eye opening. The mainstreaming/making trashy cool has a lot to do with this, imo. I mean for frick's sake, some of these girls are having big public displays/baby showers for their bastard kids. Can you imagine that happening just 30-40 years ago?

The other thing is that smarter, more stable families are being outbreeded exponentially.
I have a doctorate and my wife has a master's degree. We have two children and do not plan on more. My two brothers have three combined, my wife's two siblings have one combined. That's six kids in a family with five educated couples. There are hundreds of single moms on welfare with six or more kids in Jackson, MS alone.
There are two ways you bring these numbers back in line:
A) Get unmarried women to have fewer children
B) Get married couples to have more children
Perhaps the latter group will start to view it as their civic duty to have more children. That birth rate has dropped dramatically, and it explains a large portion of the "percent of children born to unwed mothers" part of the problem.

and you want to know what is really going to blow it wide open?
when genetic manipulation becomes mainstream
when the top half of the world is able to basically guarantee "perfect" genetic children and the bottom half can't because they can't afford it

men who are stable and have economic value are more likely to be valued for marriage AND to have the ability to seek marriage
lower SES people have fewer men in this range, so they have fewer marriages
the reason why i believe it is b/c black women get married the least/latest. they get the shite end of the stick. it logically correlates to the issues of black males in society/our economy

yeah last year when i was looking, long before i found my current gf (no kids, thank god) i had to make some compromises with myself in this arena. having the kids isn't even the biggest issue...all the OTHER things (baby daddy, visitation schedules, etc) that come about complicate the hell out of things
