Stage 18 Classifications
I started watching when Lance Armstrong was dominating the Tour, and kept a casual interest in it afterward. The scenery the cyclists ride through is worth watching, if nothing else excites you. Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen have been calling the race for 31 years.
Also, I am noticing more commercial interruptions this year over previous years. Is anyone else thinking that the commercials are excessive? The beginning of each stage is filled with commercial breaks containing more commercials than race coverage. (First World Problems)

Day 1: Alejandro Valverde crashed out of the race during Saturday's opening Time trial. Wet roads did him in. He was Quintana's wing man.
Day 2: wet road leads to GC favorite Chris Froome going down despite riding at the front of the pack. He's switched bikes and moving on.
Also: American Taylor Phinney is on a 2-man breakaway with a chance to win the stage!
I hope the rain stops before it hurts anyone else.

Looks like it is drying up.
This is going to be interesting at the finish. 2 man breakaways never work, we'll see soon enough!
I want Froome to stay out of trouble early and stay healthy. I haven't looked up the future stages, but the Mountain stages are incredible sport. I want Froome pushing people in the mountains. Watching people just break down on those climbs is amazing.

Did anyone just see Taylor Finney's leg? Wow.

There is only 3 mountain top finishes this year, quite a few down hill finishes and not a lot of time trial miles.
Hopefully it will make for exciting racing

Watching the Peloton run them down is always exciting.
Mark Cavendish has been sprinting forever it seems like
Edit: The presenters at the end of each race are usually extremely easy on the eyes.

Since the Olympics were last year, there are a lot of guys racing the Tour that were also in the Olympics. In my opinion, the Tour is a greater victory for these guys than an Olympic Medal.

We need a tour sticky thread

Been following since the Greg LeMond days, though it didn't have the tv coverage it has now. Watched closely during the Lance years especially. It was amazing watching him crush people in the mountains - it's a damn shame drugs ruined everything. Got disillusioned with it for awhile, though I've been watching the past few years. Mostly watch all the major mountain stages, and just watch the updates or skim through the recording on other days. To bad an injured wingman can could be so costly to such a major contender already.

I will link the EPO study released this week I think regarding Lance and the absolute lack of benefits.
EPO Study and Lance Armstrong
quote:
In the first study of its kind, scientists challenged a group of 48 cyclists to tackle a series of challenges, including the infamous Mont Ventoux ascent, which often forms part of the Tour.
Half had been given eight weekly injections of EPO, a drug that promotes red blood cell production with the aim of increasing delivery of oxygen to the muscles, while the other half took a dummy.
But after the gruelling 21.5km climb - which was preceded by a 110km cycle for good measure - the average results of the two groups showed no difference whatsoever.
The scientists behind the trial, which is published in the Lancet, say athletes are “naive” about the benefits of illicit substances such as EPO, but that myths about their effectiveness go unchallenged in the murky world of doping.
“It’s just tragic to lose your career for something that doesn’t work, to lose seven yellow jerseys for a drug that has no effect,” said Jules Heuberger, who led the research at the Centre for Human Drug Research in The Netherlands.
It truly was a shame about Lance, if all of his doping didn't yield any advantage.

Taylor Phinney in the polka dot "King of the Mountains" jersey

Froome is going to win this again and Skybots will make it unwatchable
I hope Contador has some magic left but in the Giro he looked done.

I missed today's stage... someone said above Froome crashed
was it a bad crash or did he just lay it down?

He got caught in that pile up about 20 miles out. After the race he was interviewed and said that he wasn't hurt. "Just some scrapes on my backside."
So, moving forward Froome is still looking like the favorite.
