Marcello’s in Metairie Has Closed

Dammit that space is cursed. To be frank the cost of rent on Veterans BLVD is ridiculous.
Italian restaurant Marcello’s has quietly closed the doors of its Metairie location for good this past Sunday night, reports The Times-Picayune.
The restaurant at 4860 Veterans Blvd. will not stay vacant for long — the Marcello’s owners have sold the spot to Landry’s, a company that owns and operates national chains like Morton’s The Steakhouse and Bubba Gump Seafood Co. Landry’s will open the steak house Saltgrass in the Veterans Blvd. spot.
The Metairie location has been in operation for about a year and a half — opening back in January 2016. This was Marcello’s second area location; the NOLA Warehouse District spot — 715 St. Charles Ave. — opened in early 2014. Marcello’s got its start as a wine market and cafe in Lafayette — complete with a “Godfather Room.”
The NOLA location is happily staying open, and Ian McNulty reports that all reservations and any functions that were booked at the Metairie spot have been transferred to the NOLA spot

Metairie had the second highest recidivism rate for new restaurants in LA a while back, with Baton Rouge in 3rd.

The Metry demographic, at least along Veterans, seems to be fading fast.

The writing was on the wall when the Super Popeyes closed

I loved that Super Popeyes, you could order mixed drinks through the drive through!
Marcello’s was one of the few places we ate in Metry. Owner is great. Hung out with him often.

Stretch of Vets between Clearview and I-10 is oft-forgotten and seems less traveled than between Causeway and Clearview. Also, like others have said, I imagine rent for Vets frontage is high.

Do you even Cajun Cannon, baw?
Used to have regular FBD Metry Krewe meet ups there. Must have been before your time.

My dad would complain about the monthly bill. Would hear him say, why in the hell did I buy drinks for everyone.

Good food, but I actually have high hopes for Saltgrass.

The variety of yat accents being spoken all at once at Sal & Sam's is likely to never be touched again.
