I think Lin would start here and Rondo would come off the bench. I wouldn't want to give a pick either, but it may be the price to pay. The pick is going to get moved one way or the other. I've resigned myself to that fact.

Asik is an extreme negative value. Lin is a positive value. The difference in their values is considerably greater than a mid to late 1st.

I mean...he's definitely right.

If we traded for Lin somehow he would definitely start, or at least play starter minutes, one would think.

It seems that Dell went after Rondo for two specific reasons: to make boogie happy and to start alongside jrue. I don't think that vision would change if we acquired Lin.

I also think people have an unrealistic view of how much of an improvement you can make if you had Asik's cap space back. Best case scenario for Ian Clark is he's a good enough combo guard that he makes you comfortable trading Moore. But since you gave up your first to dump Asik to sign Clark, what are you going to package him with?

Clark is not going to beat out Moore for minutes because Moore is steady and knows the system and coaches like that kind of thing. He also might not beat out Crawford as 4th guard because Crawford ran the offense well enough and isn't that one of Clark's weaknesses, more SG than PG?

Zellar probably would get minutes similar to Ajinca near the end of the year, 10 MPG every other game. You pay a 1st to dump Asik so you can sign a 4th/5th guard and a 5th big?

If you could pull off Asik + 1st for Lin that mainly helps you this year because Lin would likely be a rental. I don't remember which thread it was in, but someone suggested an Asik + 1st for Terrence Ross. He's on a 2 year deal and could be a long term piece. I'd wait and hope for something like that instead of a Lin rental.

I don't see why the Magic would want Asik even with a 1st since they already have Vucevic and Biyombo and just signed Khem Birch.

I also view Clark as more of a backup PG than a 2. Moore can also run some "PG" in a pinch.

What if Asik was jailed in an Third World Country? would that effect his contract? Just asking...for no reason...

Why? I'll admit to not watching him much but he's got very low assist numbers, 12.5% career Ast%, a bit lower than Moore's 14.3%. Sort of what you'd expect from a 3 and D combo guard like Moore. Compare that to Jordan Crawford who has a 22.2% rate for his career and had 22.7% last year with the Pels.

He'd be a contract to eat for an asset while the new GM rebuilds. I'm not saying it's a slam dunk trade, I'm saying that's probably more the type of trade to look at, one that returns a player that's probably a little flawed and over paid, but fits a hole we have so it's ok. Rondo made the hole that Lin would have fit in not as big which is good because paying Lin $18+ after trading a 1st to get him seems like the kind of move that would really limit the future upside of the team.

If we're trading for players, can we go for wings?

Now, but had we traded for him instead of signing Rondo, Lin would have the leverage on the team to get a big contract from the Pels next year. I was saying I'm glad we signed Rondo as a stop gap instead of essentially locking in to Lin.

because as we know once you trade a pick for a player you have to sign him to a five year deal

I think Rondo might still start in that scenario, but Lin would probably play more minutes than him. Lin has excelled in a 3rd guard role in the past. Jrue would probably play all of his minutes with one of those guys on the court.

Why a rental? I don't think Lin would get more than 17 mil or so on the market and I believe the Pels could pay around that. Especially is the season played out well. Also, Dell likes Lin and you know what that means

They'd only have his Early Bird Rights, but that does allow for a 21 mil salary I don't think he'd get more than George Hill got this past offseason, though.

I actually thought lin wouldve gotten like 15-16 last year. Hes a proven nba level starter

If in fact he was here hed likely stick around his career numbers:

13.0 PPG
4.5 Asts
3.3 Rebounds
1 steal

44/36/80 shooting

27-28 Mpg is pretty much starter minutes and rondo would get his

I would prefer a wing tho like ross that was mentioned

Jalen Jones' deal with the New Orleans Pelicans is a two-way contract, per league sources. @Orazio Cauchi reported signing initially

Kyrie sent out a snapchat with "House of the Rising Sun" blaring in the background. Absolutely meaningless? Or Kyrie to the pelicans confirmed?
